The Countdown Begins

One. Second. That's all it takes. One. Second. And your life will end even though you are still living, that's all I can think about. Living, dying, dead, alive. That pattern I have seen so many times; the exact same pattern over and over again to my friends and my family, soon it will happen to me too.

I'm sat in a shelter by myself slowly turning insane, listening to the walkers pounding on the door trying desperately to snuff out my life. Like a candle. I only have a small amount of bullets, not enough to tackle with the hoard of walkers behind that door.

I search the room looking for a way out of this hell hole, finally I see it, a tiny trapdoor on the floor covered by wooden boxes, that was my escape the only way out. I stood up catching a glimpse of the walking heaps of rotting flesh through the boarded up windows, I stooped down to unhook the latch on the trapdoor, it was rusty but came off after I tugged it hard enough.

I heard a gurgle of saliva trapped in a throat just before a lurker lunged out of the darkness and grabbed my wrist. I smashed my foot into its face but I need to destroy its brain, it's the only way. 'What a waste of a bullet' I thought as I held the gun out in my right hand and pulled the trigger, my face was now covered in brains from that lurker. Disgusting.

I slipped down the hole after shoving the rotting carcass of the walker out of the way, a terrible smell of blood and guts filled my nose but I pushed on through. The end was near I could see small glimpses of light through the wooden panels of the escape exit, I got closer and closer until I busted the hatch open and poked my head through, gun in hand; just in case. I heard a noise behind me and a gun reloading.
"Don't move, else your blood will be added to the collection on my t-shirt."
