Pandora and Chocolate

CHAPTER 4

Today was my chance for a fresh start, I had decided to put the past week's events behind me. My bruises had healed and I was ready to show my face again. I wanted everyone including the bullies to know that although I'm human, I am no coward. I received my official class schedule today in the mail today even though our dorms don't have mailboxes... I held the envelope in my hands, running my fingers over the rubber stamp that depicts our mascot Krampus. After minutes of fumbling with it, I realized what I was doing. I was stalling, I was letting the bullies get to me. Without hesitation I tore the envelope open, causing what looked like gold dust to fly everywhere.

I looked at the gold dust on my hands and thought to myself "Is this fairy dust?", I hoped and prayed that if there were any fairies enrolled here that they would walk around in their human form. It would be horrible if I were to mistake one of my classmates for a bug and accidentally smash them.
No more than a minute later, my chair was hovering above the ground "Yep..definitely fairy dust" I think to myself. I summon my magic blue mists surrounds my chair, it contradicts the flight magic and my chair crashes to the ground with a loud thud. The noise causes Cat to stir her in sleep "Urmmm, is it time for full moon classes yet?" "No." I chuckled, within minutes Cat was back in dreamland.

I, on the other hand, am still up due to my chronic insomnia. I peeked out the window and saw only a black sky filled with stars. I sigh and head over to the kitchen and make some hot cocoa. I levitate my Totoro mug from the cupboard, add the cocoa mix and water then I place it in the microwave.
I pace, it beeps and I place the mug on the table to cool. I again return to the window and I am greeted by the same black sky, stars and a VERY familiar pair of red eyes.  Letting my curiosity get the best of me,  I decided to investigate. I drove over to the first aid on the wall, yank out the flashlight and head outside.

"Adam?" I called

 "Quit playing around I know you're out here." I sigh

"Adam?!" I shouted, suddenly a huge gust of wind blew toward me, I shield my eyes with my hands. 

"You called J?" he smiled "Yeah I did, why were you standing outside my room," I questioned with my hands on my hips.

"I was making sure that thing didn't snack on my slave.'' he said wearing his natural scowl.

"I'm not your slave Adam," I said with all the sternness I could muster.

"Yes you are the curse mark on your neck says so." he chuckles 'The curse mark is a warning to others like me to leave you alone, it also makes you obey me and allows me to read your thoughts.  He locks eyes with me.

"I won't do it I'll refuse." You can't fight it J the curse mark will make you do it." I shake my head no slowly and run my finger over the mark. You really think you can fight it J? he smiles. His smile is attractive, I wish he'd do it more often. "Yeah, I'm strong," I said trying to sound confident. "Well let's test your strength then." He says in a voice that makes me shiver. "Okay, Jamie if you're happy and you know it CLAP YOUR HANDS."
His last three words echoed in my mind as my body almost instantly obeys his command. I grunt and growl, forcing my hands to my sides and clenching my fists. I look away from him giving him no satisfaction.

Sweat beads form on my forehead and he bends down to meet my eyes, "Give in yet J?" He chuckles softly. "No." I groan. I held my hands apart for what seems like an eternity and I could slowly feel my muscles weakening and finally brought my hands together with two loud ego crushing claps.

Adam and I lock eyes again, "You fought well J but not well enough." He says with his hands on his hips.

I lost my temper and my true self was revealed blue mist enveloped my fists and my eyes glow blue. Lotus flowers the mark of my cadre (a cadre is a group of mages) appear on my hands, the lotus flower is light blue but it fades into purple.
