Nico

I didn't even fucking care about how pissed off Hazel was.

As soon as she got back, she lectured me and screamed and hollered at me.

And I ignored her. I continued drawing.

"Why are you..." She groaned in anger as Frank stepped inside. He was cool with it, I knew he was. Hell, when he saw me after that, he said whether I'm drunk or not, congratulations on that. Coming out, that shit is hard. "Fucking respond to me!"

She kicked the table my paint was on. I was starting with drawing, then painting it over.

"First of all, rude," I told her, grabbing a sponge to clean it up," second of all, what do you want me to say? I already know what you think. You think gays should burn in hell and you hate Percy. You've said that around me multiple times. I'm not going to waste my time and effort to try to change that because I'm a dumbass. It won't happen. If you want nothing to do with me, that's fine. I still have friends and a boyfriend. You can't change that."

I don't think Hazel wanted me to be so okay with this. With her not being there.

"So that's it?" I don't think she really knew, though. About Bianca. So there was that," you're okay with it? Losing your sister? Your only family—"

And that was it. I stood up, and walked out. I don't care if it seemed childish, she was digging up bad memories that she doesn't even know about.

Frank

He seemed fine until she started ranting on about the whole family thing.

After that, he just left. Like it was too much for him to hear. That he would lose his only family.

I don't know when he came back, but he was back in the cabin when I woke up the next morning. Hazel was in his room, they were talking.

"Where do you think my family went?" Nico questioned.

"You ran away from them," Hazel answered," at least, that's what everyone told me. Percy and Annabeth never said anything. But others. They said you were a runaway. Insisted on it. I thought..."

Nico let out a laugh. Just a small one. But it was enough to be heard.

"Runaway, huh?" Nico asked like it wasn't true," that's the first I've heard that one. I've heard that I killed my family, that Percy killed them, that they sent me to boarding school and abandoned me, but run away? That's a first."

"That's not what happened?"

Nico laughs again.

"No, of course not," Nico explained," have I run before? Yeah. From here because I hate this place and at the time there was no Cabin 13. But as of my family, no. I mean, if you include dad, there was four of us. Zeus heard about us, that Dad had kids, and got mad. He killed my mom. Dad left us. I was 4. When I was 12, we came here."

"Woah, woah, woah, slow down," Hazel said," Zeus got mad, Mom died, okay. We came? We?"

"Yeah," Nico told her and opened a drawer next to his bed, taking out an older folder from it," I came here with other people. Or, one other person, really. She was older, Percy's age, which at the time, was 14. They found us at a boarding school in Maine. Four of them. Grover, Annabeth, Thalia, and then Percy. Thalia went over to the hunt. Annabeth considered, but never did it. She actually fell off a cliff, somehow lived, and went missing. But the girl I was with, like I said, she was older than me. After Mom died, Dad left us, she took care of the both of us. She was my older sister."

"So where is she?" Hazel asked as I started to connect the dots and I felt like shit hearing this," did she not like camp?"

"Joined the hunt, too," Nico told her. And before he could go on, she spoke again.

"Sweet, so we can go and see her!. Oh my gods, I didn't know there was two of you, that's awesome!"

"Well, yeah, I guess you could arrange to see her... And stuff... Through Dad. If you wanted to."

"Why Dad?" Hazel questioned her older brother," wouldn't it be Thalia or Artemis?"

"No," Nico said, his voice just barely quieter," that was the thing. She joined and there was a quest within a few weeks of our arrival. She was sent on it."

"Okay. I mean, that's pretty cool. She went on a quest, kicked some ass, came—"

"She died," Nico cut her off before Hazel said she came back," they left and came back right before Christmas. Percy took me out to the woods and told me she was dead."

Silence. When he knew she wouldn't respond, he went on.

"So I did what seemed reasonable for a kid at the time," the son of Hades explains," I ran away. Tried to get her back and that failed me. They found me, so I left again. Stayed with dad for a while. Percy went missing, That freaked me out, then Dad said he wanted me to drag you out."

I headed out to breakfast and sat with the usual group. They were all pissed off with Nico. Well, everyone aside like Jason. The looks given to Nico from the people sitting with us pushed him to sit next to Percy and the others. He seemed to enjoy it over there a bit more, anyways, and I don't blame him. They know what happened to him and they don't care. Hazel doesn't want to accept that he's gay, and she hates that it's Percy he's with. I don't know why, but this summer she just started hating Percy. It's almost September now.

"Do you care that he's gay?" Reyna asked Jason.

"Me?" Jason goes to answer,"no. I mean, it doesn't affect me, especially being straight. Just whatever makes him happy. Now that he can go home and tell his parents that he has a boyfriend, that might help him, I don't know. I don't mind. Do you mind?"

The thing Nico left out from the story he told Hazel:

People don't like him.

I found Nico not long before lunch and asked if he was okay.

"Of course," he assured me," why wouldn't I be?"

"What people are saying—"

"Frank, I don't care about what they say," Nico informed me very quickly," okay? I'm used to that bullshit. I'm Hades kid, after all. Little freak of nature, that's me. Like anyone else here isn't."
