Wounded and broken
your heart drifts with the winter winds
it dangles on twigs
and kisses the grass
at night it fights the seals on your windows
it screams for your attention
and moans in its sorrows
and then the tears come
but the cold is all encompasing
it eats your tears
chills the heart
and leaves no room for growth
even after time
and yet the spring still pushes near
softens the heart, and lets the tears flow
they wash away those barren days
those icy, lonely nights, when there was no rain to drown out the winter winds
and now the sun is through with hiding
the clouds give up the sky
the stars at night peek out
promising happines and opportunity
but one last time
the winds will blow and the trees will bow
the cold air cradles your heart
and watches it fall like snow
