This is merely the beginning of what I'm hoping to be a full book, but I would love to have some critique or comments on just this little bit so far. Ciao. :]

[Edit 1] Hey, so I'm finally out of school for summer. I am going to really start working on this story again. I have some great ideas and I can't wait to put them on paper.... or the internet I suppose. :)

Thanks for reading.

Glancing up from the mug he had been wiping in his hand, Burt noticed the finely dressed woman sitting at the end of the bar. She was staring at him with a slight smirk. "What do you think you're doing here Melanie?" Burt called to his sister.  "This is no place for you to be hanging around. People might get the wrong impression of you."
"Let them think what they want," she retorted. "The place looks busy for a change." They both looked at the hand full of people who loitered in the bar. Out of the six or seven men, one stood out. He, if you would even call it that, is known as a mechanic. Built of metal and wires, it stands at a height that is much greater than the average human is.
Melanie's eyes lingered on the mechanic for a moment too long, its brass face turned towards her direction and she was forced to look into its ember colored eye sockets. She was pulled away from its stare only by the voice of her brother,
"It's a shame that everything had to go up in smoke. Seems like every time humankind thinks that it is doing itself a favor, we are just hurting ourselves in the end." Picking up the dishcloth he had set aside, he began to clean another glass from the rack on the bar.
"That it is. I miss the days when the mechanics were simple and obeyed the orders that were given to them." Melanie grinned when she saw that Burt shook his head and laughed shortly.  Their conversation stopped when the voices of the men grew from a low tone to shouting.
"You piece of scrap, get back or I'll shoot you!" yelled a man who had drawn a revolver. The man had been sitting at a table with two others. They looked to have been playing a game of cards like blackjack or poker. He pulled his gun out when the people he was playing with gestured that a near 7-foot mechanic had come up behind him.
The sight of the mechanic frightened the gunman. He jumped out of his chair; knocking his chair backwards and moving the table a foot over. His hands were shaking as his grip tightened around the handle of the gun.
"Not one step closer or I swear I'll shoot you right square in the face!" He shouted at the metal beast as though he expected it to retreat; instead, it took a step forward. The man called to his cronies for some support, but they didn't move to back him up. He pulled the hammer back and began to aim at the mechanic. Just as he was pulling the trigger, it opened its mouth and let out a horrifying noise. Terrified by the sound, he shut his eyes and jerked the trigger.  The bullet shot out of the barrel and cleared the mechanic's head by a foot or more to the right. Pointing the bullet's path right to where Burt and Melanie sat.

It made headline news, how a rogue mechanic attacked an innocent man and shot a local bartender. Everyone that could read knew about what happened August 14, 1912. What happened on that day was enough to pull the already stressed ties between robots and humans until they snapped. Leaving only a battle to fight to see which race would be dominant.
Men and women all wanted a piece of the fight. Women at times were more brutal to the mechanics than the men. The beings designed to help clean and do work for them around the house were now beaten with pans and chased out of the household. Some of the mechanics left without a fight, while some stood their ground and caused trouble. The men used more brute strength. Tearing the bots apart, throwing them into the harbor, and pounding them until their circuits stuck out through holes in their metal skin.
The bots that were lucky enough to escape the outbreak of rage against the machines were rumored to have gone to the outer province of Stopalo. According to the local newspapers, two weeks ago the government sent a small army to destroy any mechanics found before they got too strong in numbers. However, just a few days ago, word spread that all contact had been lost. The humans did not realize that not only did they create something long lasting, but something stronger and far more intelligent than them.
