~ Janice ~

I didn't much like sundays, except when Nonna came over to see us. She was a lovely woman; she was beautiful and very elegant, just like a Blake had to be! I smiled remembering what she always told me, A Blake is all in elegance, nothing in envy and everything in generosity. Ah Nonna, wonderful woman. She was sitting opposite me on the sofa with my mom.

I was absentmindedly listening to what she was saying…”listen Fatima” it’s not normal that I hear these stories about you. Living like a reckless girl, why do you have to do your crisis at the end of your teenage years? Why? Did we go wrong somewhere? Too much pampering? Why do want to give heart attack to your mom? I’m talking to you young girl!” she snaps at the end of her speech!

So that’s why mom called her by, to chat about my wonderful life? I couldn’t believe this. Anyway, it’s true that when I think of it, I still don’t really know why I go against all my mom’s rules. I have been following them since I was a kid, so what had changed? Pfff anyways, I wasn’t just going to sit there and listen to them chat about me.

I turned to my mom and looked straight in her eyes and said. “Nonna….” I said and paused a while just to take a deep breath and moved on to say “I want to leave this house. Now! I think I can no longer leave in here with mother, and it’ll be better I take distances if I want to figure out what I want to be, because I definitely don’t want to be like mother!”

~ Alison~

I looked at Janice shocked by what I just heard; she doesn’t want to stay with me anymore? Why? What did I do wrong? Where had I gone wrong? Did I miss something? Should I get back home earlier, should I travel less? What did I not do?

I turned to look at Donna, who seemed as shaken as I by what Janice just said. “Mama B..” “Alison!” she cut me out. “Wait, I know what Fatima said was just wrong but I want to give it a try, you know how much I love her, and how much she looks like my Theodore,” she said

“I know she’s your daughter and you DO love her very much, but you know how I miss having her around like when she was still a kid. So I’ll say this; let me have Fatima, this year before she goes to college. I have to be in London a while, and so I could get her enrolled in a school there where she’ll complete high school. So what do you think? We’ll give you news every day, and I’ll make sure she calls you once a week.” She stopped and stared at me.

I turned to look at Janice who was frowning. She did really look like Theodore, apart from my eyes; Janice had his all, his small straight nose, his mouth, that mouth…. I sighed as memories of Theodore crept in my mind.

~ Janice ~

“Hey Nonna, wait when I said I wanted to leave the house it was not to stay with you either, not that I don’t love you or being around your house, but I was thinking of… you know…. a place of my own…., and wait ... LONDON!!! Just you and me?? Then YES!! I’m in, but please call me Janice like everyone please, Fatima’s old fashioned!”

I was sooooo excited!!!! Hiyaaaa I’m going to stay in London with Nonna!! It’ll be fun.

“I’m definitely in!!” I screamed.

~ Donna ~

I watched Janice jumping up and down, singing and dancing, and she rushed to her room.

I just smiled and turned to look at Alison. She had a sad face, and looked worried.

“Don’t be worried, everything will be fine, I know you love her, and she loves you too, but just wants to be someone of her own, she’s always compared to you, just give her some space.” I smiled at her.

“Yes, I know I ask of her too much, but you know she’s all I have, but I know she’ll be fine with you.”

She leans in and hugs me tight. Wow she seems thinner; I get back and look into her eyes. She had something in her eyes, an expression I can’t tell well. Anyways I know she’ll be alright.

“Ok! I’m going to see Janice.” She says as she stands up.

~ Alison ~

I knock on Janice’s door.

“Get in.”  I step in and go straight to her bed, I sit and look at her. She frowns but doesn’t move.

“Janice, …. I know you are happy to go to London, you love that place so much, I remember when we went there the first time….” She almost wants to smile. My heart leaps. “Well I came to help you pack, you are leaving for Mama B’s house tonight with her, and by Tuesday, you’ll be leaving for London. I’m going to get your passport and other documents from my room less I forget, and I’ll be back to help you pack ok?”

She doesn’t answer and it hurts me. I stand and go straight to my room.

I get the stuffs I came for and get back to Janice, as I enter her room, she hugs me and says “I still love you mom, but I want to be free” I hug back very strong and tell her I love her too.

-------------------------------------------------------

“Done!!!” I say we’re through packing and heading down to meet Mama B. she stands and we head for the door, where the driver gets the luggage and loads them to the car. I hug my Janice one last time and kiss Mama B.

I wave bye as they leave the house.

I head straight back to my room.

It’s only 8pm but I need to sleep, all these emotions are too much for me. I tug myself in bed trying to think of something else, like the meeting with the CEO of the company or that job interview I have to conduct…..hmmm I think as I slowly drift to sleep.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

~ Shemar ~

Oh my, I'm almost late for the job interview.

I really have to stop all those late night parties. I sigh as i stop in front of the gates of a big building.
