Chapter 2: I'll bring home the gold medals!
Joonhyung and I were both lying on the ground. It felt so nice. I loved the earthly fragrance of the grass. It was only the two of us in the track field. He smiled sweetly at me and pulled me in for a hug. The weather is freezing but thanks to his hugs, I'm already masked in his warmth. We laughed and laughed till there's no tomorrow. We kind of kissed, too.
Suddenly, he turned toward me and his facial expression turned serious and then asked me "Why don't you marry me? I'm being serious right now." I blinked once. I blinked twice. The atmosphere became awkward and silent.
I stared at him, staying silent for a few seconds while he stared back at me. I was about to open my mouth to answer his question when —
Nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan [Bokjoo's ringtone]
*Father*
My phone suddenly went off, breaking the moment. I glanced at him for a moment before standing up to answer my father's call. As i stood up, he looked pretty disappointed. I guess he really wanted my answer right now.
Well, I do wanna say yes, but...
"Oh? Abeoji?" I greeted my father.
"Bokjoo-ah, come home early tonight. I just closed the restaurant so we could have a family dinner together." My father informed me
"Ah, ne." I replied shortly
"Are you with Joonhyung right now?" My father asked me out of the blue.
"Yes, I am. Why, abeoji?"
"That's great! Why don't we all have dinner here tonight? Tell him to bring his family too!" Uh, bad timing Abeoji.. Joonhyung and I are sort of in a sticky situation right now..
I glimpsed at Joonhyung for a quick second then proceeded to tell my father, "Abeoji, there's no need for that! Joonhyung and his family are going out tonight anyways! Let them have their own celebration, it's their son's graduation!" Joonhyung slightly tilted his head to the side when he heard my reply.
"Ah, geurae? Well, that's true.." I don't know why but my father sounded a bit down. Looks like he's gotten used to Joonhyung's presence. My uncle also likes him, too! He even called him his future nephew-in-law, and Joonhyung and I were not even a thing at that time!
"See? Oh look at the time, Abeoji! I'll be home soon, okay?" I urgently answered him.
"Eo? Oh, arrasseo. See you later." Then my father ended the call.
I turned around to face Joonhyung but he spoke first, saying — "It's fine. Let's talk about this next time. For now, just go home. Your father is looking for you."
I looked at his eyes, it's tinkling with sadness. Looks like he noticed me gawking, so he went back to his old self. He straightened his back and smiled fakely, obviously shoving the pain away.
"Ya, why are you looking at me like that? I know i'm very handsome, okay? Okay! Let's get you home, i'll drop you off." He said while smiling and placing his long arms around me. He stood up then helped me stand, too. We brushed off the excess dirt from lying down on the grass and started walking towards the bus stop.
The walk towards the bus stop was eerily quiet. Or atleast for me. He still had my hands wrapped around his, but there's something distracting him, and it's distracting me too.
When we arrived at the bus stop, he was also quiet, in a bizarre way. He just kept on looking at his hands, then to other streets or buildings, then back to his hands. His hands also can't seem to stay still. He was playing with his hands in a manner as if he was holding a stress ball.
