Revenge on the Enemy

Chapter 1 He's Gone

        My story starts off on January 7, 2000. My mom, my dad, my sister and I were all on our way back home from visiting my Aunt Louis in Tennessee. Everyone was asleep, except for my mom and my dad.

My phone rings.

I wake up to see my best friend, Lucy, is calling me.

I answer. Her voice is trembling. I start to get terrified.

"Ariana? Are you there?" Lucy says, still sounding panicked.

"Yeah I'm here. What is going on? You sound petrified."

"Ari, I am not to happy to say this to you but...."

"Lucy! What is going on? Say something!"

"Oh Ari! Your brother, Michael, is missing!"

My eyes start to water. My heart starts to pound. My voice starts to crack.

"W..What happened?" Tears rolling down my face.

"They said they heard him yelling from next door. No one knows where he went or why he left. I'm so sorry Ash. Will you be back soon?"

"Yeah we just entered California. I've gotta tell my parents about this."

I was sitting, thinking of how to break the news. As I'm thinking, I start to cry very loudly.

Now I have to spill.

"Honey, what's wrong? Jake break up with you?"

"Mom, every time I cry doesn't mean I got dumped. Mike is missing. Lucy just told me. They don't know where he went."

My mom gasped. My dad pulls out his phone.

"Dad, who are you calling?"

"I'm calling Mike."

The phone rings and rings and surprisingly, someone answers. It's Mike. He's painting. He's crying. Someone has been chasing him.

"Mike, where the hell are you?"

"Someone is out to get me. I'm fine. Don't worry about me. I'll be home soon. Don't worry I'm fi........."

"Damn! We lost him!"

"He's a very brave and strong boy dad and he keeps his word. He'll be home soon."

I finally arrive at the front of my house. I text Lucy and Jake and tell them to come over. I haven't seen my best friend or my boyfriend in 2 weeks.

The bell rings. It's Lucy and Jake. I run downstairs and give Lucy a great big hug and Jake a big hug and kiss. I was so excited to see them. I took my mind off of Mike because I knew that is what he wanted all of us to do.

"You doing o.k Ari?"

"Yeah I'm fine. So is Mike. We called him and he answered. He said he is fine, and told us not to worry about him."

"You are such a strong girl. That is one of the reasons why I love you, babe."

"Well, the Spring dance is next Saturday and I'm thinking we can all go shopping. Me, Jake, Lucy, and Justin. It will help me get my mind off of things."

"Justin has a concert tomorrow, so how about Friday"

"That would be great!"

"Ari, can I spend the night here. Please."

"Why, what going on?"

She looks at me with a worried face. I can tell something is going on at her house. I just don't know what. But I will figure out.

"Nothing is wrong. I haven't seen you in 2 weeks. I need to spend some time with you.“

I asked Jake to bring me to the store, but instead we went to Lucy's house. We sneaked to the back of the house and looked through the window. I saw something I wish I didn't see. My Heart is officially broken.

As I'm looking into the window, I see the worst thing ever. My brother passed out, or dead. Lucy is the person who was out to get my brother? This is something I need to speak with Lucy about.

Me and Jake drive back to my house. Lucy is just sitting there all innocent.

" What the hell is wrong with you?!"

"What are you talking about?"

"My brother is in your house! DEAD!“

"I had no idea that is why my parents were telling me to stay away from home since last night Ari. I had no idea. Ok."

"I'm sorry I jumped down your throat. It's just. Seeing my brother......"

I gulp. I couldn't get out the word. My brother was  gone. Even though we had our fights, I loved my brother. Now he's gone. Because of my best friend's parents. This is like completely impossible. My life is starting to feel like a game. Damn! What could've went wrong. What did I or my brother do to deserve any of this? I'm not telling my parents or my sister,Jillian. Jake comes over and cuddles me. He holds me tight and wipes my tears away.

"Can you stay the night too?"

"Of course. I wasn't gonna leave while you were in this kind of pain."

"Once again. I'm really sorry Lucy. You know, for jumping on you like that."

I was so tired that I fell right to sleep in Jake's arms. It seems like my life was completely over.
