Chapter 5
Bird sat and stared at her paws, thinking of the dream she’d had that night. A strange orange tabby had come to her and said these exact words:
‘Blood will flow and a Raven will fly away,
Smoke will darken and Petals fill your dreams,
Leaves will fall and Gray will rise,
Sparks will fly and Tigers will pounce,
Tears will be shed as Death reveals its Claws,
And the Raven shall return to its Nest’
It scared her to think that the raven in the prophecy might just be her Raven. And leaves will fall? Didn’t they already fall? It was all so confusing!
Shaking her head, Bird walked back inside the Twoleg Nest. Wait a minute! What if the raven WAS Raven and the ‘fly away’ part meant that he left? And what if the ‘return to its Nest’ part meant that he came back here? Alright, so that part was worked out, but what about the rest of it?
Scampering away towards her food dish, Bird didn’t even stop when Leaf asked her what was wrong. As if she would tell anyone! As she stuffed her mouth with the dry tasteless pellets, Bird thought about that handsome orange tabby and his strange prophecy. But her mind kept drifting away to the fact that her Raven might be leaving.
Eventually, Bird gave up eating and curled up her nest. As she fell asleep, she again dreaded the horrible possibility in her future.
*~*~*~*~*
12 moons later… (Bird is now 19 moons old)
Bird lay curled in her nest with her five kits (Petal, Smoke, Ash, Smudge, and Pounce) sleeping at her belly. Petal stretched open her tiny jaws and yawned, her downy gray pelt ruffled from lack of sleep.
“Mommy? Where’s Daddy?” she mewled, staring up at Bird with newly opened eyes. Bird’s kits were just under a moon old and far from being able to leave the nest. So, they relied on Bird for any information they needed on the whereabouts of Raven and Leaf, their uncle.
“Daddy is getting me some food so you can have dinner tonight.” Bird meowed back quietly, as to not wake the other kits. Too late. Ash was already kneading at Bird’s belly with his teeny paws, crying for milk. Sighing, she licked his soft head until his cries ceased. The mewls of her kittens rang around her.
“Milk!” squeaked Pounce.
“Mommy, I’m hungry!” Smoke exclaimed.
“Where’s Uncle Leaf?” Ash asked.
“Mommy, where’s Daddy?” wondered Smudge.
“Daddy is here- with food!” Raven meowed, his smooth black fur rippling with his strong muscles. He leapt down from the couch and padded over to where his children lay sprawled across the carpet. He held a large, furry red squirrel in his jaws. Dropping the squirrel at Bird’s paws, he dipped his head and lay down next to his kits to tell them a story as Bird ate.
As she crunched the last bone, Bird stood up and cleared away the mess. “Kids, dinnertime!” Immediately the kits came rushing over to Bird and battled each other to who got to eat first. Smoke won. With his head held high and his gray tail waving proudly, Smoke scampered over to Bird and suckled away- for a moment. All at once, Petal, Ash, Smudge, and Pounce bombarded him with their flailing paws. Squealing, Smoke fled the scene and over to Raven. The other four kits took over the meal, suckling their milk happily.
“Daddy! They hurt me!” Smoke cried, not looking hurt at all. Raven snickered and rolled his eyes, not believing his son for a heartbeat.
“All right then, you go over, push them away, and drink all of the milk.” Raven advised, casting an amused side glance at Bird. She was smirking, imagining the chaos that would follow that stunt.
Obviously, Smoke didn’t think about that because he barged over to Bird and straight through the crowd of his brothers and sisters. “I win!” He pranced in circles, grinning broadly.
“Yes, you won.” Bird agreed, looking at her agitated and hungry kittens, when she heard a yowl from outside. It was her best friend, Lucas! Leaping to her paws, she bolted through the catflap to greet him.
“So, how’re the kittens? I could hear the commotion from out here!” Lucas asked, his cold green gaze flicking to the window for a second then back to Bird.
“Lucas, what is wrong with you? You used to be so much fun, I don’t like this new you. You’re too…depressed and mean!” Bird said, looking up at Lucas with sad, mournful eyes. Her turquoise eyes bore into his pale green ones, until she blinked, tears pooling in the corners.
“Hey-No, don’t cry, please! I’m sorry, I-I’ll babysit your kittens for you! You haven’t been hunting in a while, right?” Lucas rushed to stops the sobs before they happened. It was too late, though.
“No, no. Just forget it. See you tomorrow? Bye.” Bird didn’t wait for his reply, which was always a yes, and stalked away into the house. Ignoring his cries of protest, she settled back in her bed, ready to sleep, when a volcano of golden sparkles exploded into the air. “Cheetahstrike! I didn’t know we were training today!” Bird exclaimed.
The golden sparkles shimmered in the air for a second before swirling around and rearranging themselves into the shape of a cat. It had the speckled fur of a cheetah, the tear marks next to its eyes, and the ringed tail. The golden sparks in its eyes glittered into an emerald green color. “Well, hello to you too.” She grumbled.

Was this long enough? It was two pages on Word in size 9 font, so I figured it would be good. Please dont question the drop-off because that's how it's supposed to be. Vote, comment, do whatever you want, I'm not the crazy, overobsessive type who worries about that stuff. I'm just rambling here, so bye! :)
