Okay, it's actually kinda crappy, but it's better than nothing. I won't be able to update for another week ~UGH!!!! XP~ because I have to go to Illionois to visit to Nana because she's very sick :( But hopefully this chapter makes up for it a bit, especially since there will be plenty waiting once I get back! Also, once my Photobucket account is working again, there will be a better, more Warriors-style cover coming, so keep your eyes peeled! Also a Thunder's Dixie cover, too, but I'm just gibbering, so the book starts...

*drumroll*

NOW!!!!!

Chapter 6

“It’s time.” Were the simple words she spoke. “They are coming.”

“Already? We just had kits a moon ago!” Bird cried. She paused. “How long do we have?”

Cheetahstrike’s shimmery form vanished for a moment as she scouted the area. When she returned, her scarred face was grim. “A moon. That is all. Scourge has gathered all his ‘Clan’ and is leaving today. You’re lucky he doesn’t know where you live now, or else you’d only have about an hour.”

“Only an hour? Jeez, that cat can walk!” Raven mewed in disbelief.

“Cheetahstrike, can I ask Lucas and Rose to join? They’d love to live in a Clan! I just know it!” Bird asked excitedly. Actually, it was her that wanted her best friends in her new Clan.

“No, Birdstar, we discussed this. Sparkfire and Thornheart are destined for greater things than to join you.” Cheetahstrike said calmly. She only called cats by their ‘warrior name’. This usually caused Bird to roll her eyes, like right now.

“Oh, all right. But I suppose we should start recruiting now? Before the weather turns sour?” She said, glancing hopefully at the sunny sky through the circular window.

“Yes. Now you recruit. And remember, you are now a Clan in the making. You must now use your warrior names.” Cheetahstrike agreed. She leaped into the air, twisting her elegant body until it erupted once more into sparks.

“Woo. That was tiring!” Birdstar mewed, collapsing onto the tidy grass outside her Twoleg nest. “Kittypets. You’d think they would have more brains!”

“Yes, but at least Leaf was easy to convince. Or, I should say, Leafshadow,” Ravenfeather reasoned. “By the way, that really is a cool name you came up with. Leafshadow. I like it. Think he did, too!”

“I hope so. It took me ages to come up with that! Being a Clan leader sure is tough, and I’ve only just begun!”

“Well, Birdstar, how about we get a rest and say goodbye to this place? Boy, we sure have some memories here…” Ravenfeather mused, gazing around happily.

“Yes, but do you honestly think our kits will be able to walk that far?” Birdstar asked fretfully.  Ravenfeather paused, contemplating this question.

“Possibly. If not, everyone can take turns carrying them.”

“Yes, I suppose so.”

“Wow. Just look at us! Long way we’ve come from that innocent pair of kits, all those moons ago! Now here we are, discussing the safety of our kits!”

“I don’t know if the word ‘innocent’ works there!” Birdstar purred. Ravenfeather butted her playfully in the side, wearing his usual foolish grin. Sweeping her tail across his muzzle, Birdstar turned and pranced away, disappearing through the cat-flap. The moment the silver tip of her tail whisked out of sight, Ravenfeather leaped to the top of the fence in a single bound and let out an earsplitting caterwaul.

“New members of BirdClan, gather beneath Birdstar’s and Ravenfeather’s fence!”

A small flood of cats covered the ground in heartbeats, as if they had been waiting for this command. Birdstar poked her head back out of the cat-flap, her whiskers twitching in disbelief. Wasn’t it the leader’s job to call Clan meetings? But before she could voice this complaint, Ravenfeather spoke again.

“It’s time for Birdstar to appoint her first deputy!”

With a jolt, Birdstar remembered the sacred words of the ancient ritual. Leaping up next to Ravenfeather, she closed her eyes and began.

“I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of BirdClan is Leafshadow.”

Cheers erupted from the gathered cats, and Leafshadow stumbled forward with trembling paws. “I never expected this…” He mumbled.

“Well, do you accept your position?” Birdstar meowed slyly, nudging her friend with her paw.

“A-all right,”

“Good.” Birdstar said, rasping her tongue over his ear. “We have a fairly small Clan, but with a little luck maybe it’ll grow! But right now, it’d be a pain replacing you.” Leafshadow smiled half-heartedly, then turned and vanished into the sea of cats.

“BirdClan, we are leaving tonight! Elders, queens, and kits in the center, warriors and apprentices on the outside. If any kit becomes too tired to walk, the warriors will all take turns carrying them. I will lead, because only I know where we are going, after all.

“I ask you this: If any cat senses danger in any way, please, please warn either me, Ravenfeather, or Leafshadow first. We have had more training than anyone else, so we will stand more of a chance. Does anyone have any questions?”

A pretty longhaired brown tabby elder called Minteyes blinked her large eyes. “Um, Birdstar? There’s a cheetah behind you…”

Whirling around in alarm, Birdstar gave a sigh of relief and sheathed her claws. “Oh. Cheetahstrike. What’s up?”

“Change of plans. You’re staying longer. Scourge has postponed his search for you, so you no longer need to leave right away. Also, there is other things I need to attend to here before you leave- but no matter.” Cheetahstrike added quickly when Birdstar opened her jaws to ask another question. “Just return to your Twoleg nests, or wherever you lived, and we’ll deal with this another time.”

Birdstar, Ravenfeather, and Leafshadow exchanged a skeptical glance but retreated to their nest as Cheetahstrike vanished in a shower of golden sparks.
