Operation D.R.E.A.M.: Power Switch

Kaitlyn's POV

I hung out at the computer lab. Not like there was much else to do, plus, I loved the computer teacher. Well, no homo, of course. She was the best, and took care of the announcements and all, on the television. She was one of the good people stuck in our messed up, mad world. She had her own ideas about the world.

I asked her once a while back.

"What do you think of the world?" I asked, usually a question I'd have to explain before getting an answer that would have been completely against what I wanted to hear. Most of the time.

"Well, it's a world, isn't it?" She replied, "We have what we assume are basic needs. We have pleasures, with the payment of pain once in a while. We are living, does it get any more complicated than that?"

"But what if our living isn't really living at all?" I asked again.

"Well then we won't really know, will we?" She questioned back,"Unless, you get lucky. But, for now, living or at least thinking I'm living, is enough."

I nodded at her. What she said was true, back then, but I wanted to be that lucky one. Not the one living a life that really isn't living. I couldn't manage that.

After hanging out and chatting to the computer teacher as she was on her break, it was lunch. Of course, Michaela and Dakota were my friends but, they seriously need to hook up. I hate how he makes eyes at her whenever he looks at her. I wouldn't be surprised if she was the only person he thought about when fapping cause he's a total loner.

I hung around my friends Daniel, Deven, and Brandon pretty much. I had friends of the female gender, too, of course. Friends like Aviva, Amanda, and Sarah. It's just that sometimes, it's easier to have guy friends. Less drama, and, it's amusing to see them fight and talk about inappropriate stuff. Such good memories, really.

"Hey guys, what you get on that stupid paper?" I called out to them.

"90% and wait, lemme guess, 97%?" Daniel said.

"Haha! Suck it! I got 98%!" Deven yelled at Daniel.

I rolled my eyes, no doubt they were going to be fighting today.

"Actually, I failed. It's a new low for me," I stuck my tongue.

"Another fail this marking period! Congradulations, miss Kaitlyn, your prize is, a one way ticket to a terrible college!" Deven yelled.

"Hah, all my other grades compared to yours will still get me a better place than you," I shot back.

Unknown's pov

"What's dad doing there!?!" I screamed.

Silvi glared at me. If mom heard, she'd be flipping out, and probably tear the rest of what we have left down.

"Be quiet, tell no one, got that?" She hissed at me.

I nodded, too shocked to say anything else. Dad was really in there, he left us for that monster of a society. What was he trying to accomplish!?!? Did he leave us on purpose!?! Why, why would he do such a thing and leave his kids, his wife, and the Examination Home!?! We needed him, and he left us.

Sadly, I walked over back to examiners. There were so many bodies here. I looked closely at the faces, some peaceful, some depressed, but all their eyes were closed. Part of being in the D.R.E.A.M. I guess. I found one I thought was fairly familiar. But, it's not like I had seen her before. I didn't know anyone from the D.R.E.A.M. because I never went in, and no one ever came out.

Then, I realized she was the pretty girl from the thing Silvi had created. The one standing in that room full of strange things. I had also recognized another one, a girl who was in that room with the pretty girl, just as pretty. I couldn't really make a judgement though, I have never met any girls. The only ones were the young 7 year old who helps with the farming, Silvi, and the other girls that were 17 or older. There wasn't really anyone I could judge around my age. Being 14 and all.

Well, maybe that girl named Nicole. She's secluded though, and really isn't the one to speak much. Would I have to marry a girl who was older than me? It's normal in the D.R.E.A.M. society somewhat, but I find it a bit strange.

I looked at their tags, strangely, they were as old as me, born in the same year. I read the old books we found when searching homes for survival and there used to be things called schools. Places where you'd learn things, mostly the males though. The femals were supposed to stay home and cook and clean.

But that wouldn't make sense, shouldn't they not be in school then?

I looked at their names: Kaitlyn and Aviva
