A single tear falls down my cheek as I hold the picture of the family that I never got to know, and the one that I don't want to know. The picture had a mother, a father, and two little girls, one being me, the other my sister. They were all people that didn't even try to see what I became or what I could do. They didn't see a need for me, so they dropped me off here and left. And I was forgotten.

It's not all bad here. An all girls home does get a little rowdy sometimes, but it's the place that actually accepts me. There are girls of all ages here, from new born babies to 18 year olds. I, myself, am 16. I have been here for 8 years and this has become my home. I've accepted the fact that I will most likely never be adopted. Many couples who adopt want a new born baby, so that all they will ever know is a life with them as their parents. I came here well past that age. I never had that opportunity.

I put the photo back inside my pillow case. Yes, they were rude to give me away. But it was still my family for the first 8 years of my life. And I want to remember what it was like to have one. So, I keep the photo. I sit on my bed and grab my notepad off of my night stand. I continue to write the story that has already taken up more than half of the pages in the note pad. I wrote in it here and there to pass the time. I look around and see that everyone is gone. Probably in the recreation room. There is a girl around my age sleeping in her bed. I could tell by how red her face was she had cried herself to sleep. I shook my head. I heard footsteps approach the door and I saw Blake fling it open.

"Oh my god. Mrs. Angelina gets in my freaking nerves." She said, plopping down on my bed and rubbing her face with her hands. "What's new?" I ask.

Blake was my closest friend. She was here when I came, but we're the same age. She was the only person who decided to speak to me first, and I guess that's what made me attach to her. We consider ourselves to be sisters, and we made an agreement that if anyone ever wants to adopt one of us, they get the other as well.

"She says that my English paper doesn't meet the 'requirements' that she had 'clearly explained'. Well she obviously didn't explain it clear enough since I got a freaking D!" Blake says, expecting me to start lashing out on Mrs. Angelina. "Blake you know you want the D." The sleeping girl mumbles, startling us both. "Shut up, Mariah." Blake says playfully. "Well she's not wrong, Blake." I say smirking. She punches my foot. I laugh. As if she heard our conversation, Mrs. Angelina steps into the room, cutting off our laughter.

"Blake?" She asks, with a smile and a twinkle in her eyes. "Yeah?" Blake asks, clearly annoyed. I look up from my note pad and begin to observe what's about to happen. "A couple called for a child today..." She begins. "So? Couples call everyday." Blake interrupts. I shove her with my foot and she shrugs at me. "They asked for a child that was old enough to take care of herself, since both of them work away from home and are only there on weekends," she said, putting her glasses on and reading a paper. "Mrs. Lily Carter and Mr. Mitchell Carter. He is a traveling salesman and she is an on call nurse. Very nice and reliable people." She continues. I see Blake's mouth turn into a slight smile, and I feel my heart begin to flutter. "They described the girl that they wanted, and their description matched you perfectly. They are coming in an hour for an interview."

I smile and look at Blake, expecting her to start hyperventilating. But she wasn't. She had a frown on her face as she played with the bracelet on her wrist. She stared into a blank space. "Blake! You're getting adopted!" Mariah shouts, running to give her a hug. "Yay." Blake said. Mariah backed away. "I'm gonna let you handle this one, Sophie." She says, leaving the room. "Blake?" I ask, sitting next to her and putting my hand on her shoulder.

"They want A child. Not children. What if they don't want to adopt you, too?" She says. I look down. "Blake. This is a big opportunity for you. You have the chance to be part of a family. I won't let you give that up for me." I say, even though I hate those words. "I'm not leaving without you." She says, hugging me. I smirk. This girl is crazy.

An hour flys by, and soon Mrs. Angelina comes to get Blake. She leaves, and I accept the fact that I will soon be alone.
