I stared at Kohen in shock as I racked my brain for something that he could possibly need from me.Money? Definitely not. I mean, he's pretty stinkin' rich... well, his parents are, at least. Tutoring? No way. I'm pretty intelligent, but he is a music theory genius. But seriously, what could it be? As I begin to delve into other options, Kohen's voice breaks my train of thought.
"Lia! Snap out of it and listen to me, will you?"
Jerk, I thought before I replied.
"You know, you shouldn't be so rude, especially considering the fact that you just told me you need a favor."
He rolls his eyes and continues.
"Jeez. Listen, I'm sorry. This is just... I'm just nervous to ask this of you, okay?"
Kohen Turner? Nervous? And did he just apologize to me?
"Well, if you're going to waste my time and not get to the point, then I'm going to leave. I really need some coffee."
"I'll accompany you. We'll discuss this over coffee. I have a feeling you'll be a little less likely to hit me if you have some caffeine in you," he said.
"That was a little mean, Kohen. And for that, you're buying," I said as I began to walk the short distance to the paradise that is Starbucks.
After walking in a very awkward silence, we finally arrived. I made my way to the counter to order, and Kohen followed behind me.
I smiled at the barista, who was actually super cute. He had blonde hair, glasses, and some really nice facial hair.
"Good morning," I said.
"Hi. What can I get for you, gorgeous?"
"I'll have a grande hot coffee- black. Oh, and my friend here is paying. Thank you," I replied as I began to search for a table.
I found one in the back corner, and decided to take a seat and wait for Kohen.
A few moments later, he was making his way toward me with both of our coffees in hand. He took his seat and slid my coffee to me. I took a sip, and it was amazing- just what I needed after the morning I've had.
After I had my little moment, I looked up and Kohen was staring at me. Creepy.
"It seems that you have an admirer," he said with a little bit of something that resembled disgust.
"What are you talking about?"
As soon as I said it, I saw something written on my cup in black permanent marker. Josh, the cute barista, wanted me to call him. Hm...
"Oh," I said as I made the realization.
"He looked like a douche. You shouldn't call him."
"Excuse me? I think I can do whatever the hell I please, especially when it comes to this kind of thing- not that I should have to tell you any of this."
He sat for a moment, glaring at me for speaking to him the way I did.
It seemed pretty clear to me that he wasn't sure how to reply, so I started talking some more.
"What is it that you need from me anyway? You've taken too long to tell me, and I really need to practice before my next class."
"Damn it, Lia. I need you to accompany me to one of the charity functions that my parents put together, and I need you to sing with me. There's compensation involved, as well."
"That's it? That's really it? That is all that you had to ask me? That's what you were so nervous about? Wow, Kohen. I mean, seriously. That was over-dramatic. It wasn't even-"
I wasn't able to finish my rant because it was cut short by Kohen.
"There's more."
"Okay..."
"I need you to appear as my date. My girlfriend, if you will."

Hey!
I mean, a bit of a cliffhanger, but not too bad. It's been a hot minute- well, several hot minutes, since I've been on here and taken the time to write or update. But hopefully, I'll be able to find more time to do all that!
Thank you!
