We're Good

I scooted along the corridors making my way to a very familiar room. I'd been here a lot back in those childhood days but recently I haven't set foot in this building. I passed greeting old familiar faces until I reached the bear engraved carpet. I knocked the door opposite to my  father's office, the Council's conference room. Memories of the past came rushing back to when my brother would chase me around these corridors. Of how we'd always end up making it to the main kitchen and have the remaining deserts. My father didn't care, as long as we didn't interfere in his work.

The door of the office swung open, revealing an elderly looking man who was about in his mid 40's. A little wrinkles on his forehead, other than that he looked fresh and was quite likely built. "Ahh! You must be Miss Rays. We have been expecting you, Do come in Dear." I nodded silently walking into the conference room. All eyes were now fixed on me. I searched the pair of unrecognisable eyes until they met with a pair of Golden ones. My father stared back at me with a proud expression on his dark face. This would mean I should probably be expecting something, not that it felt nice my father was pleased with me for once.

"Take a seat Miss."
I looked and smiled politely at the cross looking Old lady who told me to have a seat before taking one. "With all due respect, What do I owe this meeting to?"
I asked them feeling a bit uncomfortable. All of the people shared a look among themselves as if having a silent conversation. They nodded to my father, taking his approval before turning back towards me.

"We have been monitoring your performance for quite sometime now Miss Rays. And we have a reason to believe-

" Please don't fire me!" I said instantly cutting the old lady off. Regretting it the instant as I felt the eyes of hundreds of people bore into my direction. "We're not firing you Karla", my father laughed breaking the tension in the room.

"Oh", I simply replied. My cheeks a crimson colour. The old lady coughed before talking again. " Well we have been monitoring you and I'll make it quick to say that the Council is quite pleased with you. We would like to send you out on a mission." I jumped of my seat in excitement. After realizing how embarrassing that had been I sat back down and gazed towards my father who seemed amused by the whole situation.

"We have gathered you a team of 5 of our hunters. And since one of them dropped out, we would allow you to choose a partner for this job. Your task is simple to understand but requires strategy. You have to eliminate a possible threat. The Moonstone pack, I'm sure you've heard of them?"

"Yes Madam, I have." Moonstone was one of the greatest governed packs. It had emerged at the leadership of their new Alpha. "Well then you have probably heard that they are growing in arms and numbers posing a serious threat to our kind." I narrowed my eyes at them, if somebody is getting stronger, eliminating a whole pack isn't the only option. I was about to protest but kept my mouth shut hoping not to screw this opportunity.

"They are the threat. Your mission is to eliminate their Alpha. As for choosing your partner, we will give you time to be sure-"
"Cameron Rays", I replied quickly.

"Are you sure you want your brother on this?", Dad asked raising an eyebrow. "Ofcourse, I couldn't be more convinced about anyone else on this." I replied back smoothly. The council nodded in approval.

"Very well Miss. The instructions will be given to you tomorrow and that will be the same day your mission will take place. I'm sure we have the best girl for this operation and know you will not disappoint us. Bring your Team back in one piece", the same old lady told me as I got up to head out. I was about to exit the door before my father called out to me. "Take care of your brother, will ya?"

I smiled at him. "You know, I'm quite sure it'll be the other way around", I replied before exiting.
