I thought I had heard my mothers voice, but then I remembered that she was dead.

"How selfish of her to kill herself," I roll my eyes and sarcastically laugh to myself.

It was just my grandmothers voice. She's probably here for her weekly check up on us. Oh the joy of living without your parents.

"Nonna, is that that you?" I question as I grab my school bag and head downstairs.

"Yes, mon coeur," she replies, "weekly check up, as usual."

I take a seat on a bar stool beside the burgundy kitchen island and start eating a chocolate chip cookie. Then, I sigh very deeply.

"School has you tired?" I hear the thick french accent.

"I guess it's a little bit of everything," I say.

"Do you miss Papa?" she questions as she is looking through the fridge and is writing a grocery list.

"I really don't want to talk about him Nonna," I complain.

"Papa loves you. Finally happy you know?" she says.

"But he's happy with another woman," I mumble.

My grandmother stops what she is doing and heads over to me. I find her piercing green eyes staring into my dark eyes.

"I know your mère was my daughter. We both know your papa did not deserve her. He needed someone who makes him happy. He found a happy person now," she says.

All I return is a nod.

"Now, go get your sister and go to school," she says as she places a kiss on my forehead.

"I have told you this thousands of times before Alexandria. Stop eating in my damn car," I say dully when I notice the crumbs from her pop tart all over my carpet.

"I'm sorry Elle, I didn't have time to eat at home," she complains.

"Well, maybe if you'd wak-"

I stop arguing with my sister when I find a silver Chevrolet Malibu, the car for douche bags, parked in my usual parking space. I take a deep breath. Luckily, there was one right next to it, since I'm here early.

"Why are we here so early anyways?'' Iris asks as we make our way into the drowsy school.

I trace the perfectly aligned bricks with my eyes and start counting them. I hear Iris repeat her question.

"I was forced to be part of the welcome committee, not ideal," I answer as I make my way into the offices.

"Hello Elle. Logan should be here any minute. Here is his schedule. Do you think you can handle it on your own. I know that since your mo-," Mrs. Benson, our secretary, starts.

"I'm fine" I sigh, I can handle this," I mutter.

Everyone assumes that because my mother is gone I suddenly can't do things by myself.  Do they think bribing her up constantly makes it better?

I take a seat on the creaky, old, green chair and sigh. I tap my foot once, then twice. Then it keeps going without me wanting it to.

Not too long after, I hear the door start to open. Through the glass I see a tall, grey eyed boy, wearing a grey button up. I quickly jump to stand up.

"Hi, I'm looking for Elliot," he says to Mrs. Benson, "they said he would be showing me around a bit."

A deep sigh and eye roll comes from within me.

"This is she," I mumble trying not to make eye contact. His untamed eyebrows shoot up very quickly and his face turns a cherry red.

"Oh, I am so sorry, I- I-," he starts.

"It's all fine. It happens quite often. Although, I preferred to be called Elle," I force smile and extend my hand towards him. I have an opportunity to act normal around a cute guy. A cute guy that doesn't know about my twisted family, so I'd like to use that as an advantage.

"Well, very pleased to meet you Elle. I'm Logan Carter. I prefer to be called Carter," he says as he firmly shakes my hand and smiles back.

I notice a thread coming from his sleeve and fight the urge not to pull it off.

"So, uh, let's get started with the tour," I nod and lead our ways out of the offices.

"Alright," Carter smiles as he follows along.

I apologize for the boring first chapter :/ It will get more interesting next chapter and it will be about twice as long
