Broken.

Broken was a word I could never understand
To me broken was facing your biggest fear
Broken was a bridge I had yet to cross
Broken was a feeling I had not yet found
Broken was a sad song you hear on the radio
To me, that was broken.

Then you left

You lied and said "I'll be back"
You lied and said "I love you"
You lied when the words "I'll see you later" rolled off of your tongue.
You lied, and it left me broken.

There was that word again, broken.
You left me the way girls run from monsters in horror films
You left me like you were scared to stay
You left me like it was life or death and leaving me meant you'd live a life full of luxury.
You let me fall to the floor
You let me grovel at your feet BEGGING for you to stay.
You left me and it was the end of the world.
You left me, and I was broken.

My friends and family picked me up piece by piece.
They put me together and expected me to be the same.
You waited until I was alright and THEN you tried to come back as if you never left.
That broken feeling never really goes away.

When I see your face, I feel broken.
When I smell something that makes me feel at home like I did with you, I feel broken.
When I see your name on a screen, on paper, or anywhere for that matter, I feel broken.
That's different though.

You may have broken me
And that feeling may never go away
But I will not remain broken
I will be alright no matter what
And in the end
Someone will find you and pick you up just to watch you fall.
They will break you the way that you broke me, and then you
You will truly understand the word broken
