As I trudge into school on Monday, I realize that I'm feeling more tired than usual. I start walking to English while the bell rings.

When I plop down, I hear the teacher, Mrs. Higgins, start taking attendance. I take a long look around the room inspecting what everyone is doing. I see some kids sitting in the back of the room either sleeping or throwing paper at each other. I look next to me and see one of my best friends, Hope, straightening all of her books into a perfect stack on her desk.

"Maggie?" Mrs. Higgins calls out.

"Here," I mumble.

"Maggie? Is Maggie absent today?"

"Here!" I snap. I didn't mean to raise my voice, and Mrs. Higgins raises an eyebrow as she scans my body suspiciously. I slowly drop my head into my hands. I already can't wait for this day to be over.

About five minutes before the bell, Mrs. Higgins announces that she will be handing back our tests from last unit's book.

Yes !  I thought. I had to have aced this. I studied for literally three hours.

Mrs. Higgins has about six tests left in her hand, and I can't handle the suspense. Finally, I get my test face down. I carefully turn it over with my eyes closed so tightly, I think they might pop. I slowly open my eyes and...

"What?!" I scream out of shock. A 78%... I got a C.

All of a sudden, the bell jolted me out of my thoughts. I sat there for a minute, feeling paralyzed. Somehow I eventually managed to get out of my seat and shuffle to my locker.
