This is a twilight fan-fiction and my first story on here so please comment!
It was July 15th 1931 and my 16th birthday. I was going to go on a camping trip the next day with my best friends Livi and Charlotte, as it was the first day of the holidays. We had gone on a shopping spree at the camping store at the corner of our road and had gotten everything we thought we needed. It was raining but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm, we were used to it, we lived in New Orleans, one of the rainiest places in the USA.
My birthday passed quickly. I woke up later than usual and had to rush downstairs to the kitchen, to find that mum had made me a cooked breakfast of eggs and bacon. On the table was a present wrapped in silver wrapping paper. I opened it excitedly; it was from mum and dad. It was the skirt that I'd pointed out to mum in the high street last week. I hugged them both thanking them, and scoffed down my breakfast hungrily. I had to rush to school because I was still running a bit behind and the cooked breakfast had set me back even further.
At school everyone wished me happy birthday they even sang to me at lunch which was really embarrassing and I'm sure I went bright red. Everyone else in the canteen joined in, everyone except for Edward Cullen. He sat in the corner as usual not joining in the song. I always felt sorry for him, he always sat on his own, I had thought of inviting him to sit with us many times, but my friends had always convinced me not to. I looked over to him, he was looking in my direction, I tried to smile but I don't know how well I did. I don't think it was very good because he started chuckling. I didn't have time to think about it for long, though, because I was being congratulated again after the song had finished.
"Ugh, maths now." Livi complained with a grimace. I laughed at her reluctance. I never minded lessons, I picked things up quickly. It was a kind of talent I have, if I got taught something; no matter what it is I could always remember it. So I found school easy and rather boring, teachers didn't ask me questions in class, and I didn't do much.
The rest of the day went rather normally, until English. In English I sit next to Edward Cullen, it's the only seat left, but I don't mind, he doesn't really talk to me and it's kind of embarrassing but he always smells really good. It was a weird thing to notice but it wasn't anything like I had ever smelt before. That's why I was so surprised today when he wished me happy birthday. I think I managed to stutter out a thank you but my mind went blank when he smiled at me.
"So, what are you doing to celebrate?" he asked me in his caramel voice.
"Um, I'm going on a camping trip with a few friends tomorrow." I said.
He nodded but didn't make any more attempts at a conversation.
Before I knew it, it was the end of the day and I hadn't really had a chance for it to sink in that I was 16, yet. Mum and Dad were out for dinner and were supposed to be back soon. I was doing this morning's washing up when the phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Um, Miss Ellie Greystone?" A nervous voice at the other end of the phone asked.
"Yes, can I help you?"
"Well . . . I'm so sorry to have to give you this news, but . . . but your parents have just been in a car accident . . . neither of them survived." It was like I'd just been punched in the stomach. I couldn't think of anything to say, I couldn't believe it was true.
"No . . . no, I think you must have made a mistake." I stuttered looking for anyway that this could all be a misunderstanding and that my parents were just about to walk through the door and give me a hug, telling me that it wasn't true.
