"I've got 50 boxes of cake mix, we need to start making cakes ASAP where are you?" I snapped at my brother Derek over the phone.
"I think you got the wrong number but count me in anyway, it sounds like fun!" a female voice replies.
I laugh as a reply, "Oh sorry I thought I dialed my brothers number."
I'm about to hang up when the girl replies again, "It's fine, I was serious about me helping though. I own a bakery and can help you out if you want, and for a super reasonable price."
I think about it for a while. "I could actually really use the help, what's the bakery address?"
She tells me and I plug it into my phones GPS "I'll be right there, oh and my name is Devon by the way"
She replies, "Sweet we are open and ready for you, and my name is Cassie." I hang up and drive over to the bakery.
--- Cassie
I hang up the phone shocked at the conversation I just had.
I laugh, "50 boxes of cake!"
As realization hits me I run around the shop trying to organize all the necessary tools for this project. Going through a list in my head:
Bowls, check
Whisks, check
Eggs, check
Flour, check
Sugar, check15 minutes later I hear the door open and a girl shout "Cassie?! I'm here to bake 50 boxes of cake!"
I pop my head up and over the counter and say "Welcome, uh here take an apron"
I hand her the apron I found and she laughs a bit. She points to my nose "You've got butter on your nose"
I laugh and wipe it off with my towel, "So let's get to baking yeah?"
We get to work mixing in so many bowls and then putting them into the molds. Baking a cake is no easy task! You have to make sure you execute it with precision.
Once we are finished putting the last set of cakes into the oven we sit down for a break. We both huff and sit down on the floor.
I asked, "So why did you want to bake so many cakes?"
She sighs and looks at me "My mom's cancer is terminal. And she has always wanted a 50 story building in cake form" she laughs and shakes her head "We are a dorky pair"
I nudge her with my shoulder "Then what are we waiting for? Let's get to making that tower"
Once we are finished I help her deliver it to her mom's hospital.
"Thanks for today Cassie" she says as she gives me a hug.
"No problem Devon, text me, we should hang out sometime." I tell her, she nods and goes in to deliver the cake to her mom. I head back to my bakery to change out of my uniform.
My parents left me this place to run, it's been in the family for decades. I live in the apartment above it with my baby sister Calla. I go upstairs to check on her, Shadow our German Shepherd greets me at Calla's door. "Hey boy, being a good guard dog??" I walk in just in time to see Calla waking from her nap.
I'm shocked to see how long she slept today. I thought she would wake up while I was working with Devon. "Hey Cal how are you doing?"
She responds with an extremely loud wail "Got it your hungry"
I giggle and lift her up and carry her to the kitchen. I pull out her baby food and begin feeding her. Once we are finished my phone rings, I answer it while balancing Calla on my hip. "Hello?"
"Hey Cassie it's me Devon, I wanted to thank you again and ask if you wanted to meet up with me and my brother at the Zoo tomorrow?"
I smile and look at Calla "Sure but I'd have to bring my baby sister, is that fine?" I ask.
"Sure no problem, this is the start to a beautiful friendship!" She squeals. I look at Calla and laugh back "Yeah I agree."
