Liza was stunned speechless.
Even though she'd lived in New York City for quite a while, she'd never had a celebrity sighting, much less having her all-time role model help clean up a spilled coffee.
She desperately tried to remain calm.
"L-Liza Miller," she swallowed hard.
"Lin Miranda."
He held out his hand and she took it, willing her own not to shake.
"I'm a...huge fan of your writings," Liza managed to get out in a shaky breath.
He laughed. "Thanks." He stood up carefully, avoiding slick spots on the floor. "Nice meeting you, Liza."
And just like that, with a wave he was gone.
Liza carefully packed her laptop up in her bag and made her way towards the door. It felt like she was sleepwalking.
She heard a teenage girl somewhere behind her whisper, "Man, that girl is so lucky."
Had that really just happened?

Liza pushed open the back door.
She was dressed in a light green work top with the diner's logo on it and jeans. She grabbed her apron and name tag off the hook and started tying the former on.
"Liza!"
She turned, breaking into a smile. It was Shane, her best friend at the diner.
"You're late," he said, his green eyes sparkling. "I was afraid you wouldn't get here in time. The boss's pretty miffed."
"I've had an interesting day." Liza tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Yeah?" He seemed distracted. "Hey, Liza, there's something I've been meaning to tell you."
"Oh?" She willed herself not to show emotion. She honestly had no idea how she felt about Shane, except that he was her closest friend and the only thing that made work tolerable.
He was alright looking - wavy brown hair, a little stubble here and there - but she had never considered...she shook her head slightly to clear it. They were best friends, nothing more. They never had been. Of course he wouldn't tell her he had undying love for her or something like that.
Still, she couldn't help thinking about it.
Just as he started to speak, the door opened and a little family came in, searching for a table.
Shane gave her one last little smile before turning and walking off to help the family.
Smiling in spite of herself, Liza grabbed a rag and a spray bottle.

She was ready to crash.
As she forced her way through the apartment's double doors, a familiar voice asked, "How was your morning coffee?"
Liza turned, smiling with the little energy she had left. "How did you know about that?"
Tony shrugged, wiping the ash-blonde side bangs out of his face. "I didn't see you leave for your shift at noon, so I figured you were out earlier. What were you doing?"
The day's busy shift had wiped all memory of the coffee shop from her mind, but now it all flooded back, the fatigue slowly dropping away into excitement.
"Something awesome happened," she squealed. She knew he was a fan of Lin's, too.
He raised one eyebrow, the light gray eyes smiling at her. "Oh yeah? Hit me with it."
She grinned.
"You are not gonna believe this."
