Shortly after the Battle of the Trident, Lord Eddard Stark learned that his sister, Lyanna Stark, is being held prisoner at the Tower of Joy. When he, Howland Reed, and a couple other bannermen arrived at the Tower, Sir Author Dayne and another Kingsguard were placed there. After Ned demanded to see his sister, the Sword of the Morning and the Quiet Wolf dueled. At the end of the fight, Ned climbs to the top of the tower and finds his sister in a pool of blood.
- "Ned is that really you? You're not a dream?", Lyanna asked.
- "No I am not a dream. I am here. Right here", Ned said while he holds her hand.
- "I missed you, big brother", she said with a smile.
- "I missed you too", Ned said.
- "I want to be brave", she sobbed.
- "You are", Ned insisted.
- "I'm not. I don't want to die", she said.
- "You're not going to die. I wont let you", Ned said while Lyanna groans in pain.
- "Get her some water! Is there a maester?!", Ned screamed at the handmaidens.
- "No water. Just listen to me, Ned. Their names are Maegar and Jaehaerys. If Robert finds out, hell kill them. You know he will. I need you to protect them. Promise me Ned promise me", she said with her dying breath.
Then one of the handmaidens gave Ned Stark two newborn babes, one with jet black hair and one with silver hair the twin sons of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. The Sons of Ice and Fire.
