You and your now best friend, Riley, were hanging out at your house, watching the news. Riley was eating a bag of Doritos. You had a can of (Enter favorite soft drink here) in your hand and your eyes were glued to the TV.

"2 FIGURES HAVE BEEN REPORTED OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS IN THE FOREST NEAR (enter town name here). THEY HAVE BEEN SAID TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE KIDNAPPINGS AND KILLINGS AROUND THE AREA. PEOPLE AROUND THE AGE OF 14 - 18 HAVE BEEN REPORTED MISSING. WE ADVISE YOU STEER CLEAR OF THE FOREST" a news reporter reported. "BACK TO YOU, JOHN (cena BA NA NA DAAAAA)"

"Pfft" Riley snorted. "If there are so many kidnappings and killings, wouldn't it be better to stay indoors?"

"Maybe people like getting kidnapped?" you joke.

"Sounds like a possibility" she rolled her eyes. She shoved a handful of chips in her mouth and began chewing. You were used to this.

"Well... wanna see what else is on?" you ask.

"Sounds good to me" Riley nodded.

You flick through the channels to see if anything else is on. There's nothing there and you want to turn on your favorite console and play your favorite game, but Riley cuts off your thoughts.

"Remember how we first met?" she smiled. "Feels like it was yesterday, amiright?"

You nod and smile at the thought. Back 2 years ago when you were making your first ever tree house. You wondered how the tree house was going, since you both abandoned it for a while last year and forgot about it.

"Well. I was thinking of going back to that place. Wanna come?" she asked.

"Heck yeah" you nod eagerly.

"Well someone's excited" Riley giggled, standing up and wrapping the chips up.

You quickly down your drink, put on your shoes then you both head outside. Riley has no shoes on for some reason.

It's a long walk in silence until you get there. Well, not silence. Riley is yammering her head off, talking about how her stupid brother was stupid, and how he's lucky she let's him live without getting him into too much trouble. Or something like that. You weren't really listening.

"There it is!!" Riley pointed to the tree house. It looked pretty run down. Well, on the outside. The door to the inside looked old, but seemed to have been used often.

Riley ran up to it, climbed up and opened the door. She climbed up and entered, the rotten boards creaking a little under her weight, even though she was pretty skinny. You climb up with the aid of Riley and luckily the boards support both your weights.

"Wow..." Riley took a deep sniff of the air. "Can you smell that?! Nature!"

You sniff the air. It smells like shit and grass. And was that... fresh bread? Weird...

"Yeah... Pretty good" you lie, except the bread smells good. It must be a smell coming from the bakery in the town.

Suddenly, something moved from behind you. Riley quickly snapped her head around and stared at where the noise came from. You look, too, but you only see nothing.

"Must be a raccoon" you say quietly.

"RACCOON?!" she seems excited. If there was anything in the world she liked, it would be animals, especially the creepy ones. She gets up and walks toward the noise, her footsteps making creaking noises.

Suddenly, something jumped out the window and dashed away. On instinct, Riley jumped out, did a barrel roll then ran after the thing - it appeared to be in the form of a human. You carefully and quickly climb down and run after them. You don't particularly want to see who it is, but you don't want Riley to get into any trouble. Last time she ran off she nearly got killed by a truck.

"Get back here!!" she cried angrily.

There was no response as the figure ducked into some bushes. Riley, having no shoes on, had to hop around it. Then she saw the figure rush into an abandoned home. She slowed to a stop, taking deep gulps of air.

"Wow" she huffed. "They're fast"

You nod and walk toward the house. It looks very old, like it was made in the 2000's or something like that. You walk up to it and gently touch the door, which was fallen off of it's hinges. Riley walked up to it and frowned before walking. You, being afraid of spiders, stuck close behind her. Riley seemed to be fearless. You both walk through the hall and look around. There's darkness all around.

It's eerily quiet, too... As if no one was there. And, as you looked out the window...

There's a boy standing there, but you can barely see him. He's standing far away. Wearing a white hoodie, that's for sure...

"Riley..." you murmur, tugging on her sleeve.

"What? Did you find him?" she asked, looking where you were looking.

He's gone.

"He was right there..." you say quietly.

"You must be seeing things. The dark can play tricks on you" she sighed irritably. She took your hand and headed upstairs, stepping over a red patch on the carpet. You pretended it had no significance.

Truthfully, you were terrified.

There's a noise up in the attic that makes you jump. Riley, of course, is bold and jumps to grab the string that;s dangling from the hatch. She doesn't get it the first time but the second time she manages to grab it and yank the ladder down. It landed with a solid thump. Riley begins to climb it and stops halfway to stare at you.

"You coming or what?" she asked.

"Y-yeah" you nod and slowly begin climbing after her.

There's a boy cowering in the corner, holding a blanket over his head. He's shaking badly and mumbling under his breath.

"Sorry sorry sorry so sorry" he mumbled. "I didn't mean to... I thought it was uninhabited..."

Riley tilted her head and glanced at him, then looked around the room. It appeared this boy had been living here for a long time - there were rotten apple cores, thin blankets and some more items that suggested he lived here. Riley tsk-tsked as she looked around.

"Wow kid... seems you're in a rough position" Riley murmured.

"P-please leave me alone, I'll never go there again!" he cried.

"Kid... we don't bite..." Riley was actually being kind for once. Surprise!

"We're not gonna hurt you" You smile at him.

He looks up at you and then at Riley. Then back and forth. Then he looked away.

"I'm so sorry, sorry" he murmured, rocking back and forth. "M-my name is Oscar"

"Well... I'm Riley and this here is (Y/N)" Riley smiles.

"You can live in the treehouse" you smile.

He looks up at you, eyes sparkling. "Really??"

You nod.

"We'll bring you food every day, and warm blankets, and even some other stuff!" Riley said eagerly.

"You'll... do that?..." Oscar murmurs.

You both nod.

"Oh... wow... that's the best news I've ever heard..." he smiles a little.

"Now, why don't ya come on down? Let's get out of this dump" Riley smiles.

Slowly and shakily Oscar stands up and looks at you. You hold your hand out but he doesn't take it. You all head downstairs and outside, Oscar dragging his thin, dirty blanket behind him. There isn't much said during the trip back to the treehouse, and Oscar kept his distance, mumbling under his breath all the way there. When you three get there, you and Riley head to your house to get food for the poor boy. Then you return and he was waiting there. He seemed excited just at the sight of fresh food.

"Thank you" he whispers happily before eating.

That white hooded figure still plays on your mind.
