Buttons

I have no real direction
And just seem to ramble
But no matter what I say
I'm still always lost

My eyes drift from the road and
Glance up at the sky as if
Waiting for the clouds to
Come and take me away

But the clouds, they just stay there
So instead I stare at my feet and
Wonder how I learned to walk
I notice the buttons on my shirt

No one remembers learning buttons
Do they?
That movement we've all mastered
Fastening buttons

Maybe we just forgot we learned it
Or knew all along
Such a silly task to think of

My mind wanders and boils over
With thoughts I don't want to talk about
So instead all I can muster is a
Silly observation of memory

And what buttons mean
In this ridiculous babble of nonsense
I can't say
But until the clouds come to take me away
And my brain processes walking
I will think about buttons
