I played with the hem of my shirt as me and Rita drove to get Jace.
"I can't believe she's dead", I whispered looking down.
"Jace doesn't even know it was his mother who died""Oh Sonja, when will the life start favouring you", she says sad look on her face.
"But now to this Dexter guy. What has he done?", I ask curiously.
"We had a little...fling. I loved him and he liked me. Then in the end I knew it would end in tears"she says quietly. Her hands were shaking against the wheel.
"It's okay ", I whisper looking at her. My gesture implying to continue.
"He became a drug addict and he didn't even admit it. He didn't go to rehab or even admit it to me" she rants. I look at her with sad eyes. She already had had too much bad happening to her for drugs.
"Maybe he wasn't into drugs. I mean he looked muscled and well built. If he was a druggie he'd be overly buff or a skinny corpse. And he'd have needle marks. If not then at least pale unhealthy skin, and dark undereyes. Shakiness and all that", I say to her. Trying to reason her.
"Then why did he not denye it, he lied to me notheless",she says simply and continues looking at the road.
We finally make it to playground and I see Jace. Crying in the swing. I quikly jump out of the car and go over and hug him.
"Momma's here, momma's here. It's okay", I soothe kissing his head.
"I knew you were coming, but I was afraid you'd not"he says brokenly. I rock him gently.
"momma would never ever leave you sweetheart, I love you", I tell him lovingly. Pressing our foreheads together.
((((()))))
Me and Jace sat in the kitchen eating dinner as he asked the question.
"Where is auntie?", he asked so innocently. I swallowed my tears.
"Auntie is-.She is in a much better place", I whisper stroking his hair. He looked at me, his big brown eyes wide. He looked so much like his father.
"d-did something happen to her", he asked. He had seen so many things that no one should see.
"Auntie i-is up there", I point to the sky. I was not religious, but this was much better way to explain it to a child.
His eyes widened and his lip started to tremble. You could see that he was hiding his tears. I teared up at his pain and lifted him onto my lap.
"Shh, shh it's okay"I tried to soothe him as he sobbed so very heartwrenchingly.
--------
I finally got him to sleep, he was asleep on my bed. I was not ready to sleep yet though.
I looked outside and saw a light flickering in the bushes. I started peeking at it through the curtains. When the bush moved I closed them fully, my heart racing.
Then I heard a knock. Almost had a heart attack. I slowly peeked out of the curtain. In my steps was Dexter Morgan.
---------
I set a cup quietly onto the table and filled it with coffee.
"I looked through your files", he said gruffly. His eyes were empty still, yet...captivating.
"I noticed some...relations in term wise to you and some of our victims", he said carefully."Term wise?", I ask raising my brows. And sit in front of him with my cup.
"A hooker", he simply answers. I close my eyes biting my lip.
"I haven't done it in an year. It was just to get us back to our feet", I whisper wringing my hands together.
"And I also read about you family", he continues."Stop this tormentation and get on with it!", I snap. He already hit all my sore spots. Well two out of three.
"I thought that it would be the best if you were guarded and If you could help us. Because you obviously know, a lot of this world", he offers. His eyes were kind now, yet unreadable.
"there has been others who have been killed like this?"I ask quietly.
"Yes, and I'm afraid you'll be one of the next ones", he adds.
"Then I take your offer and I will help. If you promise that Jace will be safe", I counter. My son. The little light that moved my life forward.
"We have a deal", he grins and offers his hand. I smile gently and take it shaking it.
Dexter's p.o.v
She looked so innocent, yet in her eyes you could see that she was broken in so many more levels.
