Hansels POV

I wake up and get out of bed, not a bed, the floor. This has been this way since dad started dating Jennifer. He really loves her but she

doesn't love him. She married for the money. That's right they got married. It has been 3 years since my real mom died. She had Gretel

and I. Mom wanted us to have unique names. She died because she was killed. She was walking bringing wine to the queen and she was

sick. She brought it to the queen and the wine spills on her. The queen had her be-headed. My dad is very wealthy, but stupid. He could

afford beds, and clothing for us but Jennifer always says something like 'They shouldn't have beds so they know what it's like to be poor

and more appreciative.' I don't even know why she hates us. Dad doesn't know how to cook so Jennifer says she'll feed us and cook.

Dad works all day so he doesn't know that she doesn't feed us. Sometimes when Gretel and I go outside we find food, like in the woods.

I always let Gretel have more. I am older than him, by like 2 minutes though. I act like I'm two years older than him because he is so

immature. We are twins. We look alike, I have brown hair with brown eyes, not the good brown eyes like Gretel, I have the ugly ones.

Gretel has cute brown eyes and hair down to his eyebrows. Everyone loves him. They notice our hunger and give Gretel food. Gretel

always shares. He is just like a sweet little boy. I am 13, Gretel acts and looks 9. I always make sure he is okay. Anyways I look at him

on the floor. I cover him up extra. I go down stairs. I notice she's not up yet, by she I meant Jennifer. I go into the kitchen and steal

some bread and I hide it under my shirt and start working. It looks about 5:00 AM. The sun hasn't came up and it's summer. It's better

to work in the morning before the sun comes out so you can get the hard stuff done so you don't die. I feed the animals, clean the

outside of the house, gather water from the well, plant seeds in the ground, one by one, water all of them, next I gather eggs from the

chickens and feed them, I milk the cow and feed her as well, finally I get the fat pig and bring him over to the butcher and sell him. We

fatten them up really good. We have a technique I was never told. I finished my morning chores so I sit down and wait until someone

comes down. I churn milk to make butter while waiting. I make really good butter! That's why it's my job, oh but my cheese is the best,

when I'm allowed to make lunch for dad for work I make him bread with cheese and a wonderful jam. It tastes so good that way. I

remember how it tasted before Jennifer came along. Dad comes down and makes himself a lunch.

"What you doin up so early in the mornin?" Dad asks.

"Chores, I always get up early to do chores." I say

"Well, I didn't knows you did none chores" he looks at me questionably. I hate doing it but I always have to defend Jennifer, if I don't I

don't know what she would do.

"Umm. Jennifer thought it would be good if I would have chores so we don't become lazy rich kids."

"Oh, ain't she so smart!" Dad tells me and I nod. I wish one day my dad could open his eyes. He gets his lunch and heads out. I get up

and remember that I had to pick berries. Today Jennifer has this odd meeting. I grab a Baggie and a basket. I walk out to the woods to

pick berries. Oh no, the suns up. I hate the sun. I go behind trees to be shaded as I pick berries. I put them in the Baggie and the basket.

The Baggie is for Gretel and I. I pick enough and walk back home. I also hide the Baggie so she wouldn't find it. I go and sit back on the

chair. I think I did everything. I sit there deciding my day in my head.
