I thanked Dominic for his kindness and and had started to walk home. I heard footsteps behind me so I turned around and face to chest. Literally.
"Ow!" I said rubbing my nose."Oh I'm sorry, I just came to ask if you wanted a ride home?"
"Um sure, yea that would be great."
He nodded and we walked back to his house and climbed in his jeep. He started it up and we peeled out of the drive way.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure what's up?"
" I know that it isn't any of my business, but why were you at that bar last night?"
"Your right is isn't any of your business but since you asked I'll tell you. It a long story..."
"I've got time. Just start from the beginning."
I nodded my head and began to tell him the day before.
The day before...
I woke up just like any other day to go to work. I rolled over and looked at my phone. The screen flashed on saying LATE! LATE! LATE!I rolled out into the hardwood floor. And walked over and quickly threw on some clothes. Just what ever I grabbed, I threw on. I brushed my hair and teeth, then slipped on my shoes and grabbed my keys. I ran down the stairs and out into the garage. I slid into my old hand me down car. It so old I don't even know what it is. I backed out and speed toward work. I was doing pretty good until red and blue lights lit up my back window. I pulled over to the side of the road and hit my head repeatedly in the steering wheel which caused it to honk at a careless cat crossing the road. The dumb thing just sat down and looked at me. I knew today was bad but my day had just gotten a lot worse.
"Ma'ma are you aware that your speeding, have an outdated sticker, and a broken tail light?"
"Actually yes sir I am very aware. I'm actually very late for work so that's why I was speeding. And the other two was because I don't have the time or money to fix those yet."
The officer nods his head and reaches out his hand for my license and registration. I dug through my glove box to find my registration. And my purse for my wallet which is when I realized I forgot my purse. I hand over my registration and tell him that I don't have my license with me.
He walks back to his police cruiser and runs my plate number and whatever else he has to do. He soon comes back with my paper and his ticket book. He wrote me a 700 dollar ticket, tipped his hat then drove away. I then made it to work 2 hours late.
I pulled in the drive way Café, shut my car off quickly and then ran inside hopping I wouldn't get noticed. Which luck must have it my boss saw me.
"Shaylee! My office NOW!!"
Crap.
I sit down in the chair and wait. Mel (my boss) walks in and sits down at her desk and takes out a small notebook and slid it towards me. I picked it up and looked at it. What was written was days I was late and days I'd came in hung over. There was quit a few..
"What's today's excuse Shaylee?"
Ouch
I reach in my pocket and pulled out my big fat ticket and slid it towards her. She looked it over and I could she was slightly amused (I wasn't amused at all ) and kinda annoyed.
"I told you what would happen if you came in late again or hung over. So I have to fire you Shaylee. I'm sorry...If you were to right your life and make some major changes then you could be the employee you used to be before."
She reach me my pink slip and finally check and I had left.
And thus I drank the night away.
