Chapter 1: All Because of a Cup of Coffee
third personNiall Horan wiped his face with his handkerchief and entered the small café tucked away in the outskirts of London. As he entered the homy place, he noticed that there were no people in it, save the boy behind the counter and a girl with wavy dark brown hair in a neat and tight bun sipping contently from a cup of coffee from a porcelein white mug looking intently out the window. A pad of untouched paper layed in front of her.
Paying the captivating stranger no attention, Niall sauntered confidently to the counter and placed his order and payed, sitting down at a table not to far away from the girl. The only Irish member of One Direction observed the way her sea green eyes lit up in delight as they roamed over the landscape of London. As if feeling Niall's intense gaze on her, the nameless beauty peeled her eyes from the window and transferred them to him. She gave him a close-eyed smile before returning ther attention back to the window.
A few minutes later, she had started sketching away on her paper, her eyes trailing around the small café, cherry red lips placed in a firm line as her pencil furiously flew over the paper while Niall sipped the coffee that came not too long ago. After another few minutes, Niall had gathered enough courage and approached the pretty stranger, his heart beating in anticipation.
"Hello, love," Niall's Irish accent rang around them, breaking the girl from her intense drawing as he sat down in front of her. "I couldn't help but notice you from across the room. What are you drawing?"
His nervousness melted away when he heard her warm giggle and showed Niall her drawing which was a very impressive and detailed pencil portrait of the café. "It's not much compared to my cousins' works, but I'm proud of it." She smiled happily while Niall gaped at her choice of words.
"Not much?" He echoed, blue eyes widening as they moved back and forth between the drawing and its artist. "I can't even draw a perfect circle, much less this!" Niall watched, completely mesmerized at how the girl threw her head back in laughter and managed to make it look so graceful, so natural, her eyes sparkling merrily and he couldn't help but laugh along with her. After a good few minutes of joking around and mingling, he cleared his throat to introduce himself.
"Horan. Niall Horan." He said, smiling nervously at the still nameless beauty as he wondered how she'd react. Niall was greatly surprised at her respone, and it was quite uplifting to know that not every girl he met squealed or fainted and the like.
"Bond. James Bond." She snorted while Niall chuckled, patiently waiting for her name. "Ruella Evans, but most people would call me Rue. Whatever you do, never call me Ella. It's such a girly name so I prefer Rue. You know, like the young pretty girl that died from the Hunger Games."
Rue flashed Niall an award winning smile which he mirrored and they shook hands, quickly forming a friendship, the contact of their skins sending a pleasurable jolt of electricity up and down their spines.
"Err...it was nice to meet you." She said, hastily yanking her tan hand from his grip after feeling the tingling. A ring from her white Chanel purse interrupted their awkward stare off. Shooting Niall an apologetics smile, Rue reached into her bag to retrieve her black iPhone, which, quite obviously, was the newest model.
"Hello?" She answered, pressing the phone to her ear. "Hey, Anna!" She exclaimed, smiling widely. Pausing for another moment or so, she nodded even though this Anna person couldn't see her. "Alright, I'll drop by. Tell Aria and Krysha I'll be there in an hour or so, depending on the traffic. Bye, dear."
Rue ended the phone call, turning back to Niall and smiling as she shoved her phone into his hands, beckoning for him to place in his number and Niall obliged, tapping away on the gadget. "I need to go but I'll call you later, yeah?" She asked, her perfect British - American accent once again tantalizing Niall who nodded. The blonde watched as she tore the drawing away from her pad and gave it to him but not before quickly scribbling something behind it.
"For a remembrance, I guess." She shrugged and smiled, grabbed her art materials and bag but not before leaving a few pounds for the boy behind the counter. Niall watched her retreating figure exit the shop and enter a parked white Audi which zoomed off into the highway.
The blond boy looked down at the drawing in his left hand, marvelling at how beautiful and detailed it was. Her loopy signature was scrawled professionally at the bottom left corner of the paper just above the current date.
Little did Niall know (or maybe he did but refused to admit it) that those bright and beautiful sea green eyes and cherry red lips would be haunting him for a long, long time.
