"Come back here!" A voice yelled after me.
I turned back to see how close the voice was but I didn't see anything but just because you don't see anything doesn't mean it's not there. I kept running and panting. I didn't know where I was going nor why I was running I just knew I couldn't stop.
"Get back here you little bitch!" the voice yelled again this time it sounded closer.
I looked up at the sky wishing that I could disappear like the stars did when the sun comes up every morning. As I kept running it seemed like the pavement under my feet was rushing up to meet my face. It took me a while to realize I was falling. But as I fell I realized that this was the best part of life...the fall with the worst part being the end of the fall. When I hit the pavement I realized it was over so there was no point in getting up.
"Didn't you hear me calling you?!?" The voice screeched in my ear as it grabbed a handful of my hair. "Your shift isn't over yet. You're gonna get back up on that stage and finish working. You can forget about those tips you got tonight."
I flinched away from the voice it smelt like a combination of beer and cigarettes.
"Now get back in there!" It yelled as it dragged me along by my hair back into the place of nightmares.
I didn't even bother putting up a fight it was no use. I was tired of running, of fighting. I looked up at the flashing lights inside of the place of nightmare. The lights... they were always flashing on and off the music was always so loud but everyone else seemed to be having a good time except for a guy that was standing off to the side watching me intently. I wasn't afraid of him in this place men were always staring at me with that glint of desire in their eyes.
"Go in the back and fix your face then get back out here." The voice snarled. I nodded my head then made my way to the back room. This was where all of us performers got ready and whatnot. Once I opened the door a cloud of smoke reached out to grab me but I just swatted it away as I walked towards my chair.
"Oh my god, Anna what happened?" a voice asked me. I looked up to see Andrea looming over me with worry in her eyes. Like me she was stuck in this place but tonight she has urged me to get out of here. The girls were the only ones who cared about me. Not even my parents wanted me.
"It's fine. I'm okay." I mumbled as I looked into the mirror at my face and hair.
My makeup was a little smudged by that could easily be fixed. My hair was a mess due to the voice that was dragging me around earlier. Luckily my costume was still intact. It was a black sleeveless corset that made my insides feel smashed together with a small skirt at the bottom which didn't cover much of anything. I had black lace up boots that went a little past my knees to complete the look. Even though my stage name was Angel I'm not really sure angelic was the look they were going for when I was given this costume.
"Did the boss do this to you?" Andrea asked me as she helped me with my makeup.
"I told you I'm fine." I repeated in a quiet voice.
"I told you girl you need to get out of here. Don't get stuck like me." She whispered as she stood up to fix my hair.
I wished my hair wasn't long and blond because over the years I've come to the conclusion that my looks were what got me in the mess in the first place. I had dark green eyes and smooth creamy skin with small full lips. But they'd done nothing but get me into trouble. I remember when the Boss had first picked me up from a foster home when I was thirteen. Things weren't working out there anyways weird things were always happening. The night I had decided to run away he found me and ever since I'd been working here as one of his little exotic dancers. Andrea had been here as long as I had maybe a little longer she was fifteen when the Boss found her but that was four years ago she could've left the day she turned eighteen if she wanted to but she chose to stay here with me and for that I'd be forever grateful.
