3. Sleep

A few weeks later...

Gintoki was about to go to bed
He closed his eyes and turned his body trying to relax but he couldn't as his head started to ache.
This wasn't the first time, since the day he had that strange dream he had been feeling odd, it wasn't just headaches.
It could be because of the increased amount of nightmares he had been having.
Or the strange visions that popped into his head during random times of the day.
But one thing you could be certain about was that that dream was what was affecting him.
While he had plenty of ideas of what caused his discomfort, how to cure it was yet unknown to him.
And another day went by without him sleeping.
It was harder falling asleep knowing he could have that dream again. So he wouldn't sleep much.
Without resting he stayed up and watched the morning arrive.
There was no work to be done that day so Kagura had made plans with Soyo. And Shinpachi had a concert to go to.
Since there was no use staying home gintoki decided to head out.
He was feeling rather fatigued but decided to take a walk.
As he was strolling around he caught a glimpse of Hijikata.
He blushes thinking about what had happened the last time they had met.
But it doesn't last long as he's not in the best mood.
"So that jerk is out on patrol now, great timing" he said sarcastically.
Just as he had planned to spit out a nasty comment he felt his legs going weak. He looked down and stared at his hands and saw them shaking.
"Fuck"
He could feel his voice shaking and his consciousness started to fade away.
He fainted.
The last thing he heard was the voices of people in the crowd freaking out.

He awoke in an unfamiliar room.
He was shocked by the fact he didn't feel awful upon waking up.
"I didn't have that dream..."
he looked down at his hands.
They were dirty and shaking slightly.
"Good morning stupid"
He turned around and saw Hijikata standing by the door opening.
"Care to explain what happened?"
Gintoki hesitated but then decided to explain about the nightmares that he had been witnessing.
Hijikata sighed.
"So... that's the reason you were crying last time"
He looks full of guilt.
"W-well I'm sorry about um... stuff... you know"
Gintoki blushes slightly.
"Whatever."
He didn't know what was more embarrassing. Telling Hijikata he dreamt about him or the fact he had cried over him. It almost made it seem like he cared or something.
"Um.. if you want to you can always sleep here" Hijikata suggested.
"What was that?"
Gintoki was about to turn him down but what if it could prevent that dream from showing up.
"... I guess so, but only for a while"
"BUT ONE CAN KNOW ABOUT THIS"
He didn't want rumors to go around.
Well it was true they had that kind of relationship going on, but if Kagura and Shinpachi found out it would be the death of him.
"If you say so..."
And so he ended up secretly staying at the shinsengumi...
