~~*~~

Seven years ago, no one knew my name. Not like they do now. Back then, in high school, I was just a little sophomore, not quite a child and yet, not an adult. I was, so to speak, a nerd. Whenever I had free time? I read or I did my schoolwork.

Bryce, on the other hand? He was a junior. Baisicallly an adult. He spend his time partying. He was the star. The king of the populars.  He was the racer. And he wanted me.

Every morning he stood around with his friends, who were, naturally, the other preps. I usually sat on the window-bench, finished my assignments, and listened to music.

One day, I noticed that he was laughing with his friends, and glanced my way every so often. I thought they were making fun of me, like so many others had done. Someone in a black hoodie and baggy pants slapped him on the back and pushed him over towards me, and he grinned sheepishly as he walked my way. Later he said he flipped his friend, David, off behind his back.
He stood awkwardly in front of me, and eventually I took out my earbud and asked him what he wanted. Just like that too.
"What do you want?"
He glanced back at his friends and they urged him on to do whatever devious thing they had planned.
"Um... hi, Avery. My name is Bryce... I, um, well... willyougooutwithme?" He tripped over his words, which was unusual for cool, confident Bryce.
"What?" I could have sworn he asked me out, but I'm sure I heard him wrong.
"Will you go out with me? On a date?"
He didn't look nervous, now, and I was unsure how to answer. Of course I wanted to say yes. He's Bryce West! Everyone likes him, me included. He's the dream guy, handsome and smart and funny.
But he's also dated a lot of girls and is known for being a player. I don't know. This could be a joke, he could be pranking me and as soon as I say yes he will crack up in laughter. I don't know what to do. Part of me wants to say yes, part of me wants to run away.
"I.. I don't know." I finally said, and his hopeful expression fell.
"Come on, please? Just one date?" He gave me puppy dog eyes, the big, blue orbs practically telling me I have to say yes.
"One date. Ok. That's it though, and then I'm out." I said, picking my earbuds back up and putting on in my ear.
"Ok, ok. I get it, you don't want to date me. Anyway, tonight, 6 o'clock. I'll pick you up at your place and we will drive over." He grinned, and I could only imagine what he had planned.
"How do you know where I live?"
I asked him, suspicious.
"Oh, I have my ways Avery." He replied, smirking.
"And what would those be?" I was getting frustrated with his vague answers.
"Remember the time when you had that birthday party when you were in 9th grade and gave your whole art class an invitation?" He asked, grinning.
"Yea...." I replied slowly, not sure why he was mentioning it.
"Well, my little sister was in your class. You know, Brooklyn. I drove her to your party." He said, looking down.
"And you remembered where I live since last year?" I asked, shocked.
"Well, yeah." He said, scratching the back of his neck.
"Um, ok." I said.
The bell rang overhead, signaling that we only had 1 minute till we had to be in class.
"Well, that's my cue." He said, winking. "I'll see you at 6, Aves."
I stared, open mouthed, as he walked off to class. Somehow, I've gotten myself a date with the most popular guy in school. How is it possible to be this terrified yet this excited?
