Prologue

A snarl ripped through the air behind me as a Bengal tiger's steely blue eyes locked on his target. I leaped over bodies and stray limbs towards a large boulder that seemed to be the only place where the carnage hadn't touched.

Perched on top, I scanned the once park, now battlefield for the few people I cared about. My gaze found a few of my new found family, but one person was missing. My heart beat lurched as I started to panic.

'Where? If he couldn't hold his own, I will personally resurrect him and re-kick his ass!' I thought with bravado even though my heart was scared for his life.

Leafing through the remaining fights and duels, I finally found him. He was down on one knee, using his hand for support as he looked up, like he could feel my gaze.

If I hadn't seen and felt it myself, I wouldn't believe so much love and trust could be poured in one glance, and a glance was all I got before the massive form of a fierce feline blocked my view. I felt my eyes turn to steel as I took in his green eyes, full of rage born from betrayal. His huge head raised as his roar reached even the farthest edges of the battlefield.

He lowered his head so I could read his face before he turned around and readied for the kill. He couldn't have made it more obvious even if he had said it out loud.

Payback is a bitch.
