I gasp and a tear tolls down my cheek.

"What's wrong?" he whispered now looking into my soul with worry.

"I'm Veronica, I don't know if Paulo has told you about me, but I was his girlfriend."

He squints his eyes and stares at me.

"Really?" he asks. "So you're the famous Veronica Padroya?" He hugs me and tells me that Paulo had plans to marry me. Paulo never told me this. I gasp. I let waterfalls cascade from my eyes leving streaks of sadness on my face. My body convulsed and shaked. Paulo why? I loved you too. More than my life, more than the summer sunsets over the beach by the Rio Grande River, more than the sweet smelling flowers in the spring gardens.

"Why Paulo? Why did you love me?"

All these emotions flooded me. I hugged Paulo's brother.

      "Sorry."

      "For what?" he responded.

"I don't even know your name but you're letting me stand here and cry on your shoulder." I cried.

      "Rodrigo. My name is Rodrigo."
