Hey! So this is my new Crewt fic, it will pick up from the scene at the subway tunnel and does contain spoilers for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Thanks for your interest in this and I always appreciate thoughts - I hope you enjoy!

Tina's familiar voice appeared to be calming the Obscurial - Credence - so Newt stayed quite, hoping that Mr. Graves would understand and follow his lead.

However this was not the case, and he seemed intent on getting Credence to listen to him, to trust him despite his lies.

"Don't listen to her Credence, I want you to be free. It's alright."

Newt knew that Graves would want to kill Credence, to destroy the 'threat'. Even worse, he might try to use him, to harness his power. The results would be absolutely catastrophic.

He wouldn't let him do either, but right now he needed Credence to calm down, so he didn't argue with the wizard.

He felt his heart sinking as he heard the pattering of the Aurors entering the space, but he stayed quiet and just continued to watch Credence as Tina and Graves told them to be quiet and not attack.

His eyes were still on the boy when the streams of light pouring from the Auror's wands hit him through the dark cloud surrounding him, and his screams of pain tore through Newt even as the darkness that was Credence was torn apart.

"No," he whispered, trying to ignore the cries coming from Tina and Graves.

He had made a vow to himself, that somehow he would be able to help this Obscurial. He had failed the girl, and now he has failed Credence.

................

"Newt?"

Newt looked around briefly at Tina before turning to look up at the rain again.

"It wasn't your fault, there was no way you could have saved him. They would have just killed you too.

Newt made a noise of agreement, hoping that she would hurry up and leave so that he could start his search.

Everybody just assumed that Credence had been killed, but Newt had his doubts.

While they were all distracted by Percival Graves actually being Gellert Grindelwald and the prospect of being exposed to the muggles - no-majs - Newt had being watching the fragments of the Obscurus slowly drifting to the ground.

He was he only one who saw one fragment going up, out of the subway tunnel and out of sight.

This piece was not dead like the rest, it moved slowly but with purpose, it was fleeing.

It had given him hope that maybe, by some further miracle, Credence was still alive somewhere. Even if he had perished, Newt would still try and find the rest of the Obscurus. He could study it, it was far more powerful then the dying one in his case. Then maybe next time he would have a better chance at saving the host.

He realised Tina had been speaking again and tried to listen, knowing that she would have to leave soon.

"Tina, will you help with the transport of Mr. Grindelwald? The more Aurors we have escorting him the better."

Tina turned to face the president, her face lighting up as the words sunk in.

"You mean....?" Tina trailed off and Picquery smiled at her. "Yes, of course you have been reinstated as an Auror. Come now, we have a lot of work to do."

Tina bounded off, grinning at Newt over her shoulder. He did not like Picquery, she was a hag who would do whatever it took to get what she wanted, however he was glad that they were finally leaving him alone.

............

Newt headed in the direction that he had seen the fragment disappearing in, dread rising in him as he realised how hard his task would be.

For the most part he was ignored by the muggles that he passed, a lot were looking around in confusion. Obliviating people did tend to leave them a little disoriented.

Luckily he caught a glimpse of the fleeing Obscurus before too long, it was just ahead of him but its speed was gradually increasing.

He broke into a run, trying to catch up with it before it disappeared again.

"Sorry, sorry, excuse me!"

He tried to avoid running into anyone, but despite the pouring rain the streets were crowded and he did have to push past some people.

"Oi, watch where you're going!"

The sudden comment shouted at him threw Newt off guard and he crashed into someone. He reeled back and prompty tripped over someone else.

He fell to the ground and by the time he had recovered and managed to stand up again the Obscurus was nowhere to be seen.

He let out an uncharacteristic curse, ignoring the stares he received as he started running again.

It couldn't have gotten far, so he glanced down the next alleyway that he saw.

It was too dark to see anything clearly, but he thought he could see something moving so he walked down it cautiously.

A pile of crates sat at the end and the sound of something whimpering made him stop in his tracks.

"Credence?" He asked hesitantly, not wanting to get his hopes up too much just incase he was wrong.

After all, the chances that Credence could have survived the Aurors attack were almost non-existent.

The pained whimpering increased and Newt edged around the crates, stopping and staring in wonder at the dark haired boy curled up behind them.

"Credence?" He asked again, creeping closer and putting a hand on his arm when there was no response.

The whimpering stopped and he began twitching violently. His head flew up and gazed at Newt with dull, unseeing eyes.

Newt let out a breath as he realised that Credence wasn't actually conscious. This would either make things a lot easier or a lot harder.

He glanced around the empty, dirty alley. They couldn't stay here.

He put his case down and opened it up before reaching out and soothing Credence's hair. "It's going to be okay. I will help you, I will protect you. I will find a way."
