"Credence...... Credence..... Come on Credence...... You can do it...... That's right, one step at a time, one foot in front of the other.......... Come on... Come to mummy........ That's it..... come on Credence..... You're so close.... Just a little further...... Oh Credence, look! You did it! I'm so proud..... My beautiful little boy....."

............

"Mummy?...... Mummy?...... Where are you mummy?... I'm scared mummy..... Where are you?...... Mummy?.... Mummy is that you? Mummy wake up...... Wake up mummy!"

..............

"Oh you poor soul, it's okay, I'm here now."

"Where's my mummy?....... Is she still sleeping?...... I miss her."

"I'm your mummy now, I'll take care of you..... You'll do as you're told now, won't you Credence?...... You'll be a good boy, won't you?"

"You're not my mummy.... where is she?...... WHERE IS MY MUMMY?"

"She's gone now boy, and she's not coming back. I've taken you in, NOW YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME!"

...............

"I'm sorry mum. It was an accident..... I didn't mean to lose them....."

"Of course you didn't..... Because that would mean you purposely disobeyed me....... You know what Credence? I forgive you."

"Thank you...... Thank you mum... It won't happen again...."

"I should hope not.... Now I have forgiven you..... But you know I still have to punish you..... Otherwise you'll never learn...."

"No... Mum, please.... Don't..... I'm sorry....Please....."

"Oh come now Credence, do you think I like hurting you? You're my son, but I have to take responsibility for your actions.... Come on, give it to me now.......... NOW CREDENCE!"

.................

Credence was brought back to reality abruptly, images of his childhood still rushing through his mind as he lay, violently shivering on the floor.

He looked around the small room in panic, it was empty apart from a bed that he was lying next to and there was a door on the far wall.

He used the bed to pull himself upright but immediately collapsed onto it, noting its softness in a distant corner of his mind.

There were blankets everywhere and he pulled them around himself, trying to stop the shivering as he tried to remember what had happened.

He remembered Graves betraying him and then anger, so much anger. With the anger came fear, and deeper then that was hurt. He had trusted Graves, he thought they were friends.

He didn't remember much else. He knew that they had ended up in the subway tunnel, and then the other witches were there.

They had attacked him, he remembered the white hot pain, the agony of being torn apart.

So how was he here? His whole body ached so he couldn't be dead.

He looked around the empty room again, trying to figure it out. It almost looked like how he imagined a prison cell would, except it felt more like a hospital room. It was too bright and clean for a prison.

He waited until he felt like he could stand before slowly standing and cautiously making his way to the door.

To his immense surprise it opened easily, there were no locks or anything to stop him leaving.

However what was beyond the door stopped him in his tracks. It was a relatively open space, with various beasts roaming around freely.

Except these were nothing like any beasts he had seen before. Credence felt panic rising as several turned to examine him curiously.

There were sectioned off areas in front of him and to his left, and a small house on his right was the only real building he could see, he didn't want to go back in to the room he just left but he didn't seem to have many options.

As one of the larger creatures began slowly approaching him from his left he made the decision to go to the house, hoping that it would help him find his way out of the strange place.

He moved as quickly as possible without running, flinching violently as something roared at him and ducking as some sort of bird-like creature with vivid orange feathers flew over him, opening and closing its beak but making no sound.

He made it to the little house and shut the door behind him, leaning against it and panting heavily.

He felt dread rising as he looked around the cluttered room. What was this place? Why was he here?

"Credence?"

He turned in the direction of the soft voice and saw a young man standing in a doorway, staring at him uncertainly.

He looked familiar, but Credence couldn't think of where he had seen him before.

He could feel the panic rising even more as he stared at the stranger, he was obviously in this mans home, but he didn't know what he wanted from him.

"It's okay Credence, you're safe." The mans tone was soothing and he held his empty hands out slowly in a calming gesture.

"I will explain everything, please, will you sit down? I'm Newt."

He watched Newt warily as he pulled out two stools and sat on one, slowly gesturing for him to sit on the other.

He hesitated but after a few minutes decided that he didn't have much of a choice. He certainly didn't want to risk going out there again.

He walked over slowly and Newt offered him a warm smile as he took the seat.

"Thank you, for giving me a chance to explain. I'll try to keep it brief."

He didn't know why Newt was thanking him, but he didn't want to annoy him by asking so he stayed silent, watching, waiting.

Newt looked down at his hands and fiddled with them nervously for a moment before looking up at him again.

"Credence, I'm a wizard. And so are you."
