Iki town was...not exactly what I was expecting. For whatever reason I was expecting it to be a lot smaller than it was, but easy to notice. Iki town, it seemed, was easy to miss if you took a different turn. Don't get me wrong, the place was still small, but I expected a lot less.
The professor led me to this part of town where there was this large platform that looked perfect for Pokémon battles. Kukui looked around as if looking for someone and sighed.
"Luna I'd hate to be a bother, but will you help me find my assistant? It seems she's wandered off"
"Sure!" I chirped "What does she look like?"
"Blonde, wearing white clothes, and a big hat" Kukui stressed. He seemed almost calm. She must wander off a lot. I nodded and went to look for her.
I came upon an entrance to a forest, a path winding down the center.
Maybe she went this way? I thought. I entered the forest, which soon cleared up to a mountain type path. There were stairs and odd statues going up the path all the way to the top. I sighed and walked up the path.
As I neared the end of the path, I heard screaming.
"What's going on?" I muttered, running up the rest of the path. Upon reaching the top, I saw a Pokémon being attacked by a flock of Spearow. Not only that, but the poor thing was on an old looking bridge stretching across a huge cliff. It was going to fall. I suddenly noticed the person who made the scream. She turned, and I barely had time to register her before she said,"Please! Help save Nebby!"
I ran over to 'Nebby' and shooed away some of the Spearow. I hovered my body over the scared Pokémon's shielding it from the aggressive bird Pokémon. Spearow have always been aggressive. It couldn't have been Pidgey? It's never Pidgey.
"Be careful!" I heard the girl call. No duh.
Suddenly the Pokémon beneath me started to glow, and we both became invaded in light. The bridge beneath us gave out, and we fell.
I suddenly heard a sharp cry, and the Pokémon and I were no longer falling. We were safe on the ground. I looked up to see an odd looking...thing.
"Tapu Koko..." the girl breathed.
The thing let out a loud cry before flying off.
"Pew" the Pokémon I was holding squirmed out of my arms, floating over to where the odd creature was, picked something up and gave it to the girl. I got up and brushed the dirt off me.
"I'm so sorry!" The girl apologized.
I smiled, "It's no problem!"
"No you didn't have to do that!" She continued to apologize, and I continued to tell her it was okay.
Once she stopped apologizing, she suggested we go back into town.
"Lillie!" Kukui called. "Luna! You're both okay!"
I nodded.
"Well it seems you've meet my assistant then"
I looked at the girl standing next to me. Lillie was it? She was the professor's assistant?
All of a sudden, the people around us started muttering and causing commotion.
"Ah the Kahuna!" Kukui said, turning towards a man walking up to us. He was dressed in yellow and blue with gray hair. He introduced himself as Hala, the Kahuna of Melemele island.
"I saw Tapu Koko flying about and came to investigate" he said.
"Tapu Koko was here!" Lillie explained. "Luna here was trying to save Nebby when suddenly the bridge gave out! Tape Koko swooped down and saved them from falling!"
"Is that what happened?" I asked. I figured it's what must have happened, but hearing someone else tell the story confirmed it.
Lillie nodded.
"Well then I heard you were in need of a Pokémon, Luna. Is that correct?" Hala asked me.
I smiled and nodded my head excitedly.
Hala let out three Pokémon:
Rowlet the grass type
Litten the fire type
And Popplio the water typeMy eyes instantly were drawn to Popplio. It was a blue sea lion Pokémon with an adorable pink nose.
"I like Popplio!" I cheered.
The Pokémon chirped.
"Well here in Alola, not only do you pick your partner but your partner must pick you" Hala said.
"That's cool" I said in awe.
We moved to the big platform in the middle of town as everyone gathered around. Popplio and I stood alone on the platform, steps away from each other. Popplio was supposed to run to me if it chose me as I chose it. That's what Hala said, anyway. Popplio looked around and back at me. It observed my face. Finally it ran towards me and I picked it up. I lifted it above me head and smiled.
"Bwark!" Popplio sang. I hugged my Pokémon close to me.
"So little Popplio has accepted you as well! You'll surely be partners to the end!"
"Are you going to nickname it?" Lillie asked.
Good question. I held my Pokémon away from me.
"It depends..." I said.
"On?" Kukui asked.
"Whether it's male or female"
"This one's female. Those are very rare" Hala explained.
My Pokémon looked up at me. A female, huh?
"I'll call you Ariel!" I decided. Ariel sang in happiness and blew a small bubble from her nose. It popped in my face and my face became wet. I wiped my face on my shirt. I hugged Ariel once again. This was the best day ever!
