"Hey I'm talking to you!"
And I'm ignoring you Keegan thought to herself, walking past the tall guy briskly. She kept her eyes trained ahead as she searched for an empty seat.
He grabbed her wrist mid-movement spilling her hot-drink that she had just bought all over the floor. The cup rolled under the table of the small cafe (which was creatively named 'Joe's Cafe' ).
"Oops," he said smirking. "You must be more careful" his face and voice conveyed genuineness but she wasn't fooled by the amusement in his eyes. He had done it on purpose.
Well that was a waste, it would've been been better if she'd splashed it all over him in the first place. Perhaps that would teach him not to manhandle random strangers.
"Let go," she said quietly.
"What if I don't want to?" He replied smiling gripping her wrist tightly with no intention of releasing. If he expected her to be timid and agreeing, he was in for a surprise. She acted on impulse without thinking rationally. She closed in on him bringing her body close as she rested her free hand on his shoulder.
His face grew serious not expecting her sudden reaction.
"No darling I've told you before," she started to say raising her voice purposefully so others around could hear, "You don't have to be insecure. I'm happy with you just the way you are." She finished off trying to hide her smile.
"What?!" He looked confused and quickly pulled away from her. "I'm not..." He started to say looking around worriedly.
A guy passed by them and patted him on the back as he was leaving saying "Stay confident, man!" Then he gestured to Keegan with his eyes "She's a keeper." And he left before the guy in front of her could reply.
The coffee-spiller guy in front turned to her, "You!" He said as he closed the distance between them, thankfully it was at that exact moment that his friend, who had been leaning against the wall the whole time decided to interrupt him "Come on Jesse, I've 10 minutes till I get locked out the house again." pulling him towards the door away from her. So that's the jerk's name she thought. It suited him well with his bad boy, arrogant 'worship me' look he was trying to portray.
It was late, she had to get home soon as well. It was approaching midnight and Keegan had only arrived into town just a few hours ago, moving into the apartment down the street from the cafe. This was her first time she'd moved out far from home despite her parents insisting she attend her local university. She hadn't met anyone in her building yet and this was actually her first conversation in this small town. She wasn't exactly doing well on the making friends part as she was hoping for.
Jesse, a.k.a coffee spiller guy gave her one last look before he exited (or rather was pulled out the cafe by his friend). That look said it all. She shivered in the warm cafe and hoped she wouldn't be bumping into him anytime soon.
