Part 2: Chasing After The Lost

*Grimmjow's POV*

My hands slid down the cold cement wall that surrounded my high school. I leaned against the wall and felt my knees grow weak. The small body quickly grew smaller and smaller in the distance, running from my outstretched arm and hand that reached for him. My brow was upturned in an arc and my lips trembled. Small tears began to pour from my eyes, staining my cheeks.
I clenched the wall, my nails scraping against the hard wall. A sob escaped my throat and I called out for him, his orange head bobbing away from me.
"ICHIGO!!!!" My voice sounded so unnatural, so guttural, so sad, and so pleading.
I cried out for him several times, each one tearing my throat. I called out, hoping to see him glance over his shoulder one last time at least. I was not so lucky. I knew how horrible I was. The boy had poured his heart out to me and I pushed it away, so ignorant. Why did I have to be so cruel? I thought it was too good to be true, so I disregarded the idea. I knew I would never be worthy of him, an icy bastard like me. I wasn't, and I never would. I replayed the crisp words over and over in my head.
"If you love me too....." His soft words made anger bubble up and pop.
I removed my hand from the wall and balled it into a fist, my nails scraping my palm. I slammed it against the wall as hard a I could. I felt the bones break but it was nothing compared to the pain in my heart. I clutched my chest and sunk lower, watching him dart of into an alley, a bloody trail following him.
I sobbed for a few minutes, convulsing shamelessly. I could be heard quite well in the silent school, only the breeze accompanied my sobs. Gathering my mind, I slowly rose and held my broken hand. I grunted a bit at the pain, but endured it. I dragged my feet towards a few red rocks in the street and followed them. I followed them for quite a while, they often took quick, uncoordinated turns into dead-ends and the such. I continued along the trail, sucking in my breath every time I thought I was near. Dusk began to close in as I was about to give up on my search, feeling my resolve crack and crumble.
I found him leaning against a wall in a tall, dark alley. He was curled up, eyes shut and cheeks streaked with tears. Even in his sleep he whimpered and trembled slightly. I wanted to wake him from his nightmare and comfort him, but I knew that it would just make mattes worse. I looked at his feet, the soles swollen and torn open. Blood puddled around them and the flesh was a sickly red. It looked as if someone had stabbed him several times, the wounds jagged and irregular. He shut his eyes tighter and mumbled something incomprehensible. I sighed and looked at the mess of the boy I loved.
I picked him up, being careful to not touch his pained feet. I straddled his legs around my waist and held him against my chest. His head nodded into the dip of my neck and slept fitfully. Every once in a while, he shifted slightly and grumbled while furrowing his brow. I felt many knots in his back muscles, was he really stressed before? I had the urge to massage the knotted muscles into smoothness, but I resisted.
My steps echoed off the tall walls until I padded unto an open street. I recalled the way to Ichigo's home and remembered his father ran a clinic. "I'll have his father bandage him up, he'll know better than me. I'm so fucking stupid..." I thought to myself, wallowing in self pity and hatred.
I knocked on the door and heard small steps approach it. It was Ichigo's younger sister. I gulped and asked her to get her father. She simply stared blatantly, like this was common, and then walked off.
I heard quick, loud thumps and a gruff man with a face of glee greet me. I tried my best to look pleasant and said nothing, letting Ichigo wrapped around me be enough. Isshin approached me and motioned for me to come inside, his face now saddened. I was careful to avoid bumping into anything, holding Ichigo closer to me, smelling his soft hair. I placed Ichigo on the couch Isshin had pointed to and looked at him. His feet began to streak the fabric a dark red. I cringed at the distasteful color. Isshin nodded towards my crippled hand, seeing the bruises that formed when I smashed it.
"Let me bandage those up..." He told me quietly as he walked off to get some materials.
He wrapped up my hand in a stiff bandage and told me I get it looked at soon. He saw the pain in my eyes and knew it wasn't from my hand. He looked at Ichigo, and back to me. He sighed and went to get water for Ichigo's feet. He returned and I was softly petting Ichigo's hair, taking in his sight for what I expected to be the last time. Seeing Ishhin return, I rose and looked at him. I knew I should leave.
I bowed politely to Isshin and left, kissing Ichigo softly on his cheek. I left swiftly, not allowing Ichigo's family to see my tears. I walked home slowly that night. My feet dragged on the black street. I could produce no more tears and my stomach was twisted in pain from my sobbing.
I opened the door to my house, red, swollen eyes, a sad look, and a dark aura made my mother gasp. I looked up at her, her small body inches shorter than me.
"Grimm...what?" She reached out a hand to stroke my cheek, but I softly pushed it away.
I said no words and simply walked up the stairs to my room. I quietly entered my quarters and fell to the floor, my knees making a loud thud as they hit the wood. I leaned on my hands and my hair fell down in strands. I suddenly felt waves of fury sweep over my body, giving a temporary strength. Angered by my stupidity, I roared loudly, cursing with every obscenity I knew.
My bandaged hand flew through the air, breaking a glass ornament. Shards of glass tore through the bandages, breaking my skin and having blood deep through the bandages. I held the shards in my hand, ignoring the pain.
"I deserve this.....I deserve more, I don't fear pain. I need pain, it the only thing I deserve." I muttered to myself and fell to the floor.
Physically exhausted, I collapsed and drifted into a nightmare that made me experience losing Ichigo over and over...and over....and over....forever.....till the end of time.
-----
"I want to see you again..." I said the words while watching the bright moon light up the night.
I imagined Ichigo on the plane, looking at the same moon I did. I cried again.
