*Over the phone
Ant: Hey Dec, i heard you were around. Would you like to go out with me in the coffee shop, for old time sake?
Dec: Sure, I'd like to.
Ant: Great. So, see ya around 7:30 pm?
Dec: Oh, sure. See you, but i wont be staying for long.
Ant: See ya, bye.
*End of conversation

I went to the coffee shop 15 minutes before 7:30 in case Dec was already there waiting.

As i walked in, i looked for him in the crowd. There weren't much people in the shop. A few students, and a few couples, young and old, sitting and talking about their lives. The smell of the room was overwhelming with roasted coffee beans. A smell too familiar. It brought me back to when Dec and I used to hang around to relax. I looked for a seat and there i waited. While I waited, I ordered what we used to drink before.

A few minutes later, the door opened. And there he was, there was Dec. He saw me and came over to sit.

"Hi, there." I said.

"Hello, Ant."

Its been 5 years since we've last met.  The last time we saw it eacher, we made a deal to wait for each other. We said our goodbyes with one last kiss. He went off in a different path as i walked in mine. We called a few times, but these calls were getting shorter and shorter until there were no calls at all.

"How are you? It's been a while" I asked. "I ordered already, by the way, I hope you still like your latte."

"I still like them, thanks." He said as he smiled a little. "I'm doing good, just wanted to visit home. How about you?"

I remembered the good old days when we used to spend our times, telling jokes, showing how we were in love, having fun. I remebered his smile, but his smile now is a little too different.

"Honestly? I'm just barely getting through. I mean, I have a propper job and good pay. But..." I stopped as I looked at him. "I've been lonely lately."

He didn't say anything. I didnt expect him to. I havent asked a question or anything. But his silence is killing me.

"I've missed you," I said as I put my hands over his on the table. He pulled his hands back and glaced at me but looked away immediately.

"Come on, Ant. Don't do this now."

"I want to." I said, looking for his eyes. "What happened between us?"

Where has he been? What has he been doing in his life? What have i been missing? I want to ask his all these questions. He left me with questions i needed answers to.

"I don't know, i guess we just fell out." As he said those words, i felt knives cut right through me. Is that the reason why i suddenly didn't exist is his life? I heard our friends say you were around but i didn't know.

"What about our promises then? Please tell me. I haven't heard from you since..." I asked as my eyes get cloudy, forming tears.

"You were a moment in my life that came and went. I'm glad you did. But that was it. There were nights my heart called out for you, but now it just don't feel the same."

"That was then, how about now?" I pleaded. Finally looked at me. I saw him smile, but it faded right away. Tears replaced his smile. I saw pain that I should have seen the moment he let go of me a long time ago as he saw my pain right now.

"There was just a change of heart. A twist of fate." He said as he wiped the tears off his face.

This was it, the closure i needed. That i never knew i needed. But not what i wanted. What i wanted was to continue where we left off. But seemed more like dying dream than a feeling.

"Guess we're over." I finally admitted drying my tears.

I couldn't believe what i was saying, but i said it. As our last memories together flashed before me, i was putting an ending to our chapter.

"Yeah, we are."

He looked at his watched. "Hey Ant. I was great to finally talk to you and see you. But i have to go now." Then he stood up.

I stood up as well, walked over to him and gave him a handshake goodbye.

Instead, he gave me a hug. I admit it was good, but it had to end, I thought.

"So this is goodbye then?" I asked.

He nodded. "Goodbye Ant."
