Castiel Novak and Dean Winchester have been friends forever. They don't even remember meeting eachother. They have just always been together. Dean was two years older than Cas, but that didn't bother them.
"Cas!" A 10 year-old Dean called to his friend. When Cas heard Dean calling, he immediately smiled and ran to his window, and opened his sliding door that led out to his Balcony.
Cas's room was on the second floor. His older brother, Gabriel, lived in the room next to his. Gabe was the same age as Dean. Lucifer was across from Cas, Anna and Hannah are twins and share the room across the hall from Gabe, and lastly, Chuck and Becky's room was at the Very end of the Hall. Uriel doesn't really live in the house anymore, so Lucifer claimed his room.
The Novak house was the biggest house on the block, but only because they are the biggest family on the block. In the neighborhood even. In total, the Novaks were eight and strong. Well, technically nine if you count Lucifer's boyfriend, Michael.
Chuck and Becky were their "parents", then there is Cas, Lucifer, Gabe, Uriel, Anna and Hannah. Anna and Hannah are both in the fourth grade, Gabe is in fifth grade, Lucifer is in seventh grade, Uriel is a Senior in High School, and little Cas, the youngest, is in third grade.
Cas opened his sliding door, and let Dean inside.
Dean lived across the street from Cas. He lived with his Mom and Dad, and his little brother Sam. Their house was only a single story, but they didn't care. There were only two rooms. One for his parents and one for him and Sam.
Sam was the same age as Cas, and was in Cas's class, so that helped a lot. Dean was in fifth grade with Cas's older brother Gabe. They were in the same class. Mary and John were good Friends with Becky and Chuck, so they took turns driving the four home.
"Hello, Dee!" Cas yelled excitedly. "I can't wait til summer it's almost here! We are gonna have..." Cas trailed off as he noticed Dean's sad face. "What's wrong, Dee?" Dean started crying.
"Cas... I-i ha-have to mo-move awa-ay" Dean said, sobbing. Cas couldn't move, he just froze. Tears welled up in his eyes. He tackled Dean into a hug, sobbing and yelling Gibberish.
About half an hour later, they had both stopped crying. They were both still on the floor, Dean watching Cas, who was asleep on his Chest. Dean shifted slightly, trying to get more comfortable, but Cas groaned in response.
"Cas. You gotta wake up." Dean said, petting Cas's hair. Dean heard a Sniffle from Cas. "Please don't cry again? It's gonna be OK! I promise. I'll write you a letter everyday!" Dean said, trying to cheer his best friend up.
"I just don't want you to leave..." Cas said, sniffling.
"I don't want to leave either, but I don't have a choice. But I promise. I will be back."
"Promise?" Cas asked hopefully.
"I promise." Dean smiled at Cas. "Now can you please get off of me. I can't breathe." Cas giggled and prepositioned himself so he was straddling Dean. (Dirty Perverts. They are in Elementary school!) "Better?" Cas giggled again. Dean blushed and shook his head no. "What's wrong? Are you sick? Your face is red." Cas leaned over and put his hand on Dean's forehead. "You don't have a fever. Hmmm..."
"C-cas. Please get off." Dean stuttered. Cas just mumbled an 'OK' and scooched off. Dean's face was still red, thank God Cas is clueless.
"When do you leave?" Cas asked sadly.
"Tomorrow night..." Dean said, not making eye contact. He heard Cas sniffle again and he looked up to see Cas crying. "Please don't cry." He said as he crawled over to Cas. "Tell you what. I'll ask my Parents if I can spend the night. Then we can stay up all night together!"
Cas looked at him excitedly, wiping away his tears. "I'll go ask Papa!" He stood up and ran out of the room. When he came back, he was grinning ear to ear. "He Said Yes! Now hurry! Go ask your parents!" Cas said, shoving him out the door that led to the balcony."
Ten minutes later, Dean climbed up the tree and onto the balcony, his overnight bag over his shoulder.
They spent the whole night together. Watching Movies, playing video games, and just talking. It was about 5am when Dean saw the sky turn lighter.
"Follow me" Dean said, grabbing Cas's hand. They climbed onto the roof, and watched the sunrise.
"I'm gonna miss you, Dean." Cas said, looking at his lap. "You are actually my only friend besides Sam and Gabe." Dean just looked at Cas and pulled him into a hug.
"You'll be OK. WE'LL be OK." Dean kissed the side of Cas's head. "I promise" his voice cracked mid sentence. When the sun was completey up, they crawled back down onto the balcony. They spent the rest of they day together, until the Dreaded time came. Chuck and Dad shook hands, while Becky and Mary hugged. Sam was already in the Car.
"Dean! Let's go!" He heard his mom call. "One Minute!" He called back.
"Well. I guess this is G-goodbye." Dean said, almost in tears. Cas hugged him, sobbing.
"N-not good-goodbye. Ju-just until n-next time." Cas said. Dean hugged him one last time.
"T-then until n-next time, C-castiel Novak." He said smiling sadly. Cas smiled back but frowned again when Dean turned and ran off to his mother. He got into the car, and they were about to leave, when Cas yelled.
"WAIT! WAIT ONE SECOND!" He climbed up the tree onto his Balcony, and ran into his room. He grabbed one thing. One singular thing. It was a Teddy bear. He started to climb down the tree again, but Jumped about halfway down. Luckily, he didn't break anything. He bolted toward the car, and knocked in Dean's window.
"Here" he said out of breath. "So... So you don't forget me." Dean smiled, and dug in his pocket. He pulled out his pocket knife and handed it to Cas.
"So you don't forget me." He said. He rolled up the window, and they drove off. They didn't see each other for what felt like forever. But in reality it was only about 6 years.
Dean sent letters to him almost every day. But as months passed there were fewer, and fewer. Until they stopped.
