*RING RING*

I hear the phone go off, so I pick it up as fast as I can.

"Hello?"

"Hi Olivia, this is principal McAlister speaking. I just wanted you to know that we have a dorm room available for you"

I almost start jumping with that new information. I was waiting for a couple of days now, because when I registered there they said that unfortunately there weren't any free dorm rooms for me. My mom will not be as happy as I am, she doesn't want me to move out, but I feel like I should have some kind of independence and that would be a good start.

"Wow, thanks for letting me know. I will speak with my mother as soon as possible and I'll get back to you on that"

"Okay, I will be waiting for your call. And again, we're really sorry we couldn't find anything for you sooner"

"No problem, thank you again"

I hang up and go watch some TV until my mom gets back from work and I can talk to her about it.

As soon as I hear the door open I turn off the TV and go straight to my mom.

"Hey mom, how was your day?"

"Hey sweetheart, pretty great actually and yours?" She asks looking a bit suspicious about my sweetness in this particular day.

"So, something interesting happened today. Principal McAlister called..." I say feeling really insecure about her answer.

"Oh, they got you a dorm room? That's great" she did not convince me.

"Mom, I know your upset. But it will be good for me, and I'll come visit you all the time" I say trying to relax her.

"Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry. This IS really great, and I want you to know that I am seriously happy for you, I'm just gonna miss, that's all..." she tries to hold her tears and at that point so did I.

"I'm gonna miss you too mom, so much" I say through tears and give her a big hug.

"Okay, but enough with the sobbing now, we have some packing to do"

We go to my room and start packing up my stuff. I had already called the principal to let him know that I'm going tomorrow morning, so he could leave the key for me.

As we pack up my things my mom starts to get sad again about me leaving and pretty worried too.

"You know the rules right? I don't want you going to any parties and staying up all night drinking or getting involved with some boy you barely know. I want you to really focus on your studies, and if you need anything, please call me"

I just nod to let her know I got it. My mom can be pretty controlling at times, if she caught me doing drugs or sleeping with a boy she would flip out and bring me back home immediately. That's one of the things that annoy me about her, but what can I do, she's my mom.

After we finish packing we decide to order a pizza and watch some chick flick movie on netflix for our last night together. By the time the movie ended my mom was already fast asleep, so I put a comforter over her body and go sleep in my own room for the last time.
