Gwen walked slowly along the same old boring concrete ground staring at the same old boring shoes. She never really got new clothes apart when hers became too tattered and ragged to wear. All the clothes she got was usually worn before her by either her older sister or her older brother. Sighing she shifted her backpack to the other side of her shoulder. As she entered the building one of the Year 9 kids muttered, "Hobo!" before smirking and walking off laughing with his friends. Her cheeks flamed at the name. No one at this school knew about her being homeless and living in a slum but somehow she always ended up with the nickname, Hobo. She bent her head, pulled down her hat and ran to class. She quickly took her seat and took out her notebook. "Hey!" She heard someone whisper behind her. "Hey you!" She ignored the urge to turn around and punch the person in the face and stared down at her work.
"Hey Hobo Girl! What are you doing after school? Bet you are begging for money!!"
Gwen cringed at the name calling and turned around and said coldly, " For one my name is Gwen not Hobo girl and for two it's none of your bussiness what I'm doing after school. Stop bothering me Thomas!" She had to turn around to hide a blush that slowly seeped to her cheeks. Crap, how did he know?! Thomas wasn't a stalker but that was exactly what she was going to have to do after school, after she's done her homework.
The rest of the day flew by and before she knew it she was walking slowly away from the school. A long, sleek limo smoothly pulled in and Thomas coolly walked over to it. Some people are so lucky. He knew everyone was watching him. "Jealous Hobo girl? Wait, Don't even answer, I know it will be a yes." He threw back his head and laughed along with the rest of the school. Gwen's eyes watered and without her permission, the tears started to fall. She ran down the hill as fast as she could and turned left on to Lucky Street. As she wiped my eyes she caught a glint of sun shining down on something and went to check what it was. It was a black lamp. To her it was the most beautiful thing she has ever seen but she didn't know that it would change her life forever.
