(The curtains rise on Alice, a young woman, pacing and muttering back and forth. The backdrop is of a small room with few to no windows, which have bars on them. Another young woman, Sarah, enters.)
SARAH: Alice, come on, it's time to take your medicine.
ALICE: No! I won't take that disgusting stuff anymore!
SARAH: (calmly) Alice, it's making you better. You want to get better don't you?
ALICE: (sighs) Yes...but I don't want to have to take that...
SARAH: If you take it, you'll get better, which means you won't have to take it anymore.
ALICE: (slightly happier, almost childish) Okay okay okaaaaay, let's go.
(They Exit. Lights Fade)
(Lights come back on. Enter Sarah and Alice. A man is waiting for them with a bottle in his hand.)
ALAN: (Holding out a cup) Okay, Alice, take this, you know you'll feel better.
ALICE: (Hesitates before drinking what's in the cup, and makes a face)
ALAN: Oh please, it's not that bad. (rolls his eyes).
ALICE: (Glares at Alan) It's not like you have to take it... (clutches her head and falls backwards. Sarah rushes in the catch her. Alice passes out.)
SARAH: (Setting Alice down) Alan, you know it won't help her. You're just giving her false hope.
ALAN: (Sighs) I know, Sarah, but it's better to give her false hope then to tell her she's doomed.
(Exits in a rush. Sarah picks Alice up and Exits)
