Chapter Three
This morning I woke up to birds chirping and a warm breeze that swept loose strands of hair across my face. I quickly sat up alarmed that I was not in my bed but relaxed when I realised I had fallen asleep in the field. I immediately jumped to my feet realising I had school today. I ran to my house and climbed onto the bins then the roof and through my window. I opened my bedroom door and saw that Brett was not here, thank God.
I rushed towards my closet and got changed in my usual jeans and a hoodie. I quickly brushed my dull black hair, brushed my teeth then slipped on my converse and grabbed my bag before rushing downstairs. I grabbed an apple to eat on the way to school then left the house.
I reached school in twenty minutes with five to spare, that was close. Like every morning I went to my locker and dropped off a few extra books then made my way to my first class, Math.
When I rounded the corner I saw Sam talking to the popular group. He looked up at me and waved, I quickly put my head down not wanting to be seen but I couldn't help the smile that spread across my lips.
Sam's P.O.V
I felt eyes on me and looked up to see Hailey walking round the corner. I put my arm up and waved at her. She quickly looked down but as she walked past I could see a smile on her lips, a real smile. I bit my lip trying to hold back my own smile knowing I caused that. I turned my attention back to the group of people talking to me who all had confused expressions on their face. I raised my eyebrows at them.
"What?" I questioned.
"Why are you waving at the freak?" A girl whose name I think is Jessica asked.
"She's not a freak," I replied glaring at the girl,
One of the guys started laughing which caused the rest to join in,
"She's not a freak," he wheezed out, "What plant is this guy living on, he's crazy," He said referring to me.
I looked at them in disbelief then walked away to my first class.
I couldn't concentrate in Math, I tried to do my work but my eyes and thoughts just kept going back to Hailey. She's beautiful, the most beautiful girl I've ever seen, she had dark, black hair and the most piercing blue eyes I'd ever seen. I wanted her to be mine, and that was going to be hard, but I'd do whatever it takes.

Lunch came around and I walked with Hailey to the tree she sits at. My mind went back to lunch time yesterday when I saw her tongue piercing. She freaked out when I saw it and I want to know why.
Hailey was a talented drawer, I had watched her yesterday and I was watching her draw today as well. She looked so calm and relaxed when she drew, she seemed to forget all her worries. I wanted to know more about her, she was intriguing. I had heard many rumours about her in the short time I've been here, some of them were crazy. But I didn't believe a single one.
After school I decided to walk Hailey home. When I excited the school grounds she had already walked a fair bit up the road so I had to run to catch up to her. I stopped running when I reached her and just walked silently next her. She turned to look at me and her eyes widened. She picked up her pace and walked ahead of me. I too picked up my pace to catch up to her. I extended my arm out to stop her from walking away and she jumped back looking scared. I furrowed my eyebrows together, confused.
"Hailey I'm not going to hurt you, I wouldn't do that," I said to her hoping she would calm down.
She looked at me still frightened, shook her head and ran, fast. I just stood there, mad at myself for scaring her. I had to gain her trust, but how?
