The beginning of this story is awful and boring. It's going to get really good. It goes 6 years in the future, Maya gets kidnappped and has a kid, Rucas will happen, so keep reading!
Riley's POV

It was the first day of 12th grade and I was so excited. We get to do so much in our senior year. Prom, choose collages, graduation, its a big deal

"I can't believe that we are seniors now!" I said

"AFTER THIS YEAR, I LEGALLY DONT HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL ANYMORE!" Yelled my best friend Maya

I was always a sweet bubbly person and Maya was the opposite of me. She was a rebel, a daredevil, a school-hater, but she had a tuff life. She came from a broken family and her parents recently got married

But Maya and I are the best of friends and we did everything together. We were best friends since kindergarten and she's the most important person in the world to me

"Come to think of it, I'm 17 now" said Maya "You can drop out of school at age 16... So I shouldn't even be here!"

"you know that you have to get a good education in order to become successful" I told her

"why do we really need education?!" Cried Maya "I live in an area full of poor people. People who steal money and use food stamps. There are people who did go to collage and never made it into a good life. All the buildings are destroyed and the food stores are so run down that a lot of the food is toxic"

"that happens to so few people"

"and yet, there's pro football players and celebrity's that ditched high school and their making millions"

I know that that's not true in many cases. The economy is bad right now. Maya has a bad idea

"those people already have a special talent that can make them successful" I told her in the gentlest way possible

"well, I'm good at art" said Maya

"you won't be able to get into anything until you get your high school degree

"school is just a place where we waste our time" stated Maya "These teachers have no right to take our lives away when we come home from school. How come we have to waste all our time on homework given by just regular working class men and woman? They are stopping us from being successful. We need time to do other passions. So therefore, I'm dropping it of school"

She can't drop out of school! I need her to get through this year! She just can't be successful unless she finishes school

"YOUR NOT DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL!" I yelled

"I am" cried Maya "Even if I went to collage, I would never get accepted. All I ever got was Fs. I'm a failure Riley. The only way for me to be successful is to start now and make my own path in life"

Then Maya ran away faster then I ever saw her run before. There was no time to grab her

Then, I had my first class, Social Studies with my father. He has taught amazing lessons to us for years. We had a long class but soon, it started to end

"and that's your first big lesson in the biggest school year of your lives" concluded Dad "The special lesson is that we are all human beings"

"we already knew that" said my boyfriend, Lucas

"I thought I was a robot!" Said one of my friends Smakle

Everyone was silent. The worst part is, she actually means it

"I have no idea what to teach" said Dad in defeat

Then, I blurted out "what about the fact that Maya is dropping out of school?!"

"what?!" Yelled dad

"why would she drop out of the school?" Said Farkle one of my other close friends who liked me since the first grade "Maya is my love, I loved her since the first grade"

He likes both of us and can't decide

"civil war, 1800s" yelled my dad as he wrote civil war on the chalk board "The colony Georgia wanted to separate from the U.S and become its own country and you know what happened?"

"they didn't" concluded Smakle "Because they knew that America was in this together

"just because Georgia came back to America doesn't mean Maya will come back" said Lucas "she's gone and history doesn't repeat itself"

He's really sensitive 😒

"history does repeat it's self" said dad "90 years ago, we got the biggest snow storm in New York. Two years ago, we got a snowstorm just as bad as the one 90 years ago. We can determine everything in our lives from history. So, Maya will come back"

That night, I went over to Maya's apartment to see if she came home. I texted her and she hasn't responded. What's going on?

I made it to her apartment, told Maya's parents everything, and they were shocked

"I just don't get why she was all of a sudden so sad" I said "She was fine yesterday"

"we know why she's upset" said Maya's stepfather Shawn "Last night, I lost my job"

"WHAT?!" I yelled

"the company I was working for went bankrupt" cried Shawn "I had an education and went to collage and yet, in the end, I failed"

"I keep telling you that you didn't fail yet" said Maya's real mom, Katy "There's probably other jobs out there"

"probably" said Shawn "Not defiantly"

"even if you can't find a job, we have each other" cried Katy "And that's more than enough"

But they might not have Maya anymore. What if she's gone
