A/N: I have only read up to Book Seven: Eraks Ransom so far, so sorry if the story seems a bit....off.

This is the first fanfiction I have written so comment and tell me if you liked it, and if not tell me what I can do to make this better.

Enjoy! -Pseudonymous xx

Distressed by her parents sudden divorce, 12 year old Anna Mason is given up for adoption in Castle Redmont by her brutal and uncaring mother and father.

"Just another boring day dealing with the unrelenting and occasionally surreptitious forces of society" Anna mumbled under her breath as she rose from her uncomfortable mattress.

"Good Morning Anna!" sang Molly, her roommate, who had already awoken and was sitting on a small wooden stool, writing something on a thin slip of paper. "Morning Molly" said Anna groggily as she changed into her everyday-wear: a green T-shirt and blue jeans.

"Today's the day" Anna said nervously combing her short choppy brown hair out of her surprisingly hazel eyes. Anna was scheduled to be picked up by her adoptive parents today and be taken to a new home. "What are you nervous about? your getting a wonderful new family! I hear their rather important and high in authority according to the local chatter." Molly said in mock interest. She was never really into the adoption service gossip, but it was almost always true.

"Oh I think you know why I'm nervous..." Anna trailed off. She was known to choke up around strange adults, and especially ones of high respect and authority to Castle Redmont. Molly continued on "I also heard that one of them is close friends with Queen Cassandra." 'Oh wow', thought Anna annoyed; 'she really doesn't stop.'

Molly was wearing her everyday white sweater and light brown khakis, feet hanging an inch above the ground due to her petite figure. Molly and Anna had been friends since Anna moved in with her about 2 years ago. Molly was known for being cheerful and positive, but also for being quite the pest when you upset her or Anna.

People knew Anna for being shy and hiding her face in a book whenever humanly possible. She had books stacked under bed and on her nightstand, and the occasional book hiding under her pillow or blanket. They also recognized Anna for her skill on the violin which now lay perfectly on a small white armchair placed neatly upon the light wooden floors.

"Does that make this.... Goodbye?" Anna asked Molly sadly. She hadn't considered that this may be the last time she sees Molly until she is old enough to go visit her. And that was quite some time away. Anna had moved to sit on the ground, pulling on her white flats and light grey sweater next to Molly's stool and laid her back against the dull pink walls.

"I guess so..." Concluded Molly while rising from her seat. Anna stood to and embraced the petite girl she had come to know as her best friend. Anna long blond hair was pushed behind her head with a swift flick of the wrist, and Anna pulled back about 3 inches to study her. She gazed into Molly's ocean blue eyes and pulled her into yet another hug.

"This isn't goodbye forever you know, I will be able to visit!" Molly cheered. Anna had almost completely forgotten. The Baron had allowed Molly rights to leave the Adoptive Services building for only one week at a time during the time of Anna's leaving. The Baron did not want to separate them, for their friendship was widely known as rather strong. They were close knit, as you could say. "Of course it's not goodbye!" parroted Anna.

Molly pulled away, and in that moment they heard the shrill knock of the Head of the Adoptive Services, Elliot Mac. "Come in" Molly said sadly, dropping the usually cheerful note of happiness in her voice, and exchanging it with one of loss and sadness for her friends departure.
