Boys Being Boys

As I walked out of my home with my younger brother, I saw Felix, he was really cheerful. My heart dropped, when he was cheerful, it usually means that a girl was texting him. He was running to catch us up and I unknowingly started walking faster. My younger brother Manny, started to a little jog as I walked faster. Manny grabbed my arm as he huffed and puffed, "C-Can you p-please slow...down" he asked me holding his knees.

"Yeah, if you say so man" I replied quickly

As we started walking Felix caught up to us, "Richie! Manny! Hold up I have great news to tell you guys!" He yelled

"Did you finally get a girlfriend?" My brother joked

Felix's face lit up like a Christmas tree when heard those words, "Actually, this one girl, Becca, said that she wants to try new things with me" he smirked

"Richie you got an offer like that too right?", my brother chirped

I didn't know what to say, but I didn't like degrading girls like that, "Don't be such a snitch Manny" I barked

"So you got an offer too, that's cool" Felix said dropping his head

I knew he was sad, that he wasn't the only one that girls tried to get at. I just wish he would react this way when someone tried to take me away. I wasn't really sure what he was thinking, he was deep in thought.

"Hey man, remember we're going to play soccer after school" I reminded Felix in hopes he would snap out of it

"Oh right, who's coming?"

"Just the guys, I think, maybe that one girl Leo likes, not sure, but pretty sure"

After school we would usually play soccer outside of school, but since I started high school, we don't play as much after school. Usually on a Friday we would go to Leo's house to eat and then to the middle school, since it was in front of his house, to play soccer. It's just boys being boys. Not all of us liked playing soccer, Jeremy didn't like it, he would just bring in snacks, he usually brought his girlfriend, but they had recently broken up. I didn't have a clue on why couples broke up, how do you fall out of love?

As we our high school came into sight, I quickly said goodbye. I was embarrassed of the jealousy I was feeling. There was a knot in my stomach, I wasn't sure what he might do if I told him. I could hear his voice and the giggle of girls, why did it have to be him. He was trying to get with as many girls as he could. He said his goal was to be with all the girls in our year, you might as well exclude every gay girl there, since they wouldn't look twice at him.

As first dragged on, all I could do was think about him. I was thinking about how his ego was too big for him, he was sort of short, not really as tall as me. He was not really fit, but necessarily overweight. Girls called him "cute" all the time, they also called him "adorable", and a big hit to the ego was "brother". He was always complaining about it, he kept telling me that he was going to lose weight, but at the end of the day he would forget and eat fast foods with me.

By lunch Felix and my friend Jeremy decided it would be a good idea to tell a girl that I liked her. The girl started blushing and she nodded no, ouch. I mean I wasn't interested but, was I not desirable? The girl then came, and introduced herself, "Hey Richie, I'm Diane, I want to tell you I'm flattered, but I'm really confused about my sexuality, don't think I said no because I don't like you. I mean I don't know you, but you seem very nice" she ranted

After that we talked a bit more, and I really did find a friend in her, she gave me her Facebook and I added her as a friend, we then exchanged phone numbers, and she left. My friends thought that I was crushing on this girl throughout the day. I didn't feel the need to tell them about how she said she was confused. That was not my secret to tell.

I had Felix and bunch of my other friends for sixth period, they would goof off, and I would tell the occasional joke. They would poke girls, and you an hear them squeal, it was funny. Then we decided to make a group chat on Messenger. I didn't know that, that group chat would be the center of many things.

No matter how much I tried to keep my feeling hidden from Felix, that day, the middle of December, the day before we left on our holiday break, I told him. That day started out so simple, but that day I told him. I was choked up, and he did something I didn't expect, he kissed me.
