Reaching into the bag, I tossed out more food. It was caught then swallowed. At the happy noises following I tossed out more food.
Say what you will, but I kept him well fed.
The room where Spot- or 'Fluffy' if you were on Hagrid's side- was fairly sparse. There were just a few small chairs to sit on. They assumed any furniture in here would be destroyed by the dog. They had no idea of the kindness that Spot could wield.
The puppy was doing a perfectly good job of staying in control. You had to keep him entertained. Also well fed. Also just treat him kindly. Locking him away in this room, then just leaving him? How rude.
Spot wagged his tail, excited. I reached into the bag. It had taken some convincing to have a House Elf give me this much meat. Once I admitted it was for Spot they were a lot more eager not to feed the dog themselves. I don't even know if they were feeding him or if it was just Hagrid- any excuse away from Spot.
When I grabbed another bit of steak I tossed it up. One of Spot's underfed heads grabbed it. They scarfed it down.
"Good boy." I walked over, scratching his tummy. Spot rolled to the side with a heavy thud. The tail whacked the ground as I continued to rub his tummy. "Who's a good boy? Eating his dinner? You're a good boy, Spot!"
Spot panted, letting me rub his belly to his own content. And he did. I was rubbing his tummy for an age.
When I finally stopped, all three heads immediately starting licking at my head.
"Spot!" I scolded, laughing too much for it to be effective. "Spot that's my hair! Oh- it's so hard to get slobber out of hair!"
But the three headed wolf puppy only sat back in his haunches, panting with all three tongues out. He had done no wrong in his own eyes.
After a quick shower- there would be no wrong in mine.
"Have you ever been confronted by what you wanted most, and it scared you?" I mused out loud.
Spot made a curious noise.
"There's this thing- upstairs." Holding tighter to my knees, I rested my head against Spot's belly. "It shows you what you desire most. It showed me..."
The pause was so long Spot let out an inquisitive whine.
"...how could it even see it? I keep my head locked up tight." I pondered. My hand ran along his thin belly fur. "Maybe...maybe it looks in your heart. Everyone knows the heart is easier to trick than the mind."
Spot let out a yip of agreement.
"Yeah. Creepy. Bee can do that too, it's just better when he does it. Less creepy. Though a lot of people think that's wrong too. Bee's too...pacifistic to do anything though." I blew out a breath. Spot did too- copying me- it got slobber all over the floor. "I can't wait to learn Scourgify."
Spot panted. His three tongues hanging out.
"You're a good boy, Spot. Yes you are." I encouraged, feeling tired.
Letting out a sigh that was this close to being a yawn, I adjusted myself against him. He was warm and soft, something positive in the cold outside.
My thoughts went out again, as what had come up on the mirror flashed again in my mind. The entire memory was coated in fear. Though I dreaded the thought, I wondered if this was what it felt like under the Dementors. The vision itself had not been horrifying- yes I had heard Daisy's, that was nightmare fuel without a doubt. It was what the vision brought to my mind that scared me.
