People are scared of silence; because it shows no emotion. When you are hanging out with someone you can tell their emotions from what they say and how they say it. When some one does not speak how can we judge their emotions? Are they angry, sad or dissapointed at us? Silence is just another form of the unknown and that scares people.
Darkness is another thing that people are scared of. Light is an illusion that gives humans a sense of knowledge. What do we know for fact when it is bright out? We know things location. Their color their texture, we can even identify the object. When it is dark we are left guessing. Darkness is actully safer than light is when you really think about it. When the sun is out your eyes and brain do not question things. If you see it you believe it, but in the dark you must think.
Is it safe to just assume that something is real? No, the mind and human beings can easily play tricks on you. People are prone to make fun of EMO's and goths because they might enjoy the darkness more than others... but I'll bet they are a quicker thinker than the happy hippie sitting in the sun.
