Chapter 3

Veronica's P.O.V.

I woke in the back of a van. I couldn't make out much, it was so dark. The only thing that I could make out was the conversation going on in the front of the van. I had nothing else to do so of course I listened in hoping to find out why I'm in the back of a van.

"Did you really have to knock her out?" I heard Ric say. I was completely shocked. Ric had known I'd be kidnapped. "That traitor!" I thought to myself. This would explain what Ric said before but still I wondered why he agreed to kidnap me. Or why he was forced ?

"No but it was easier," I heard my other kidnapper say.

"She's just a kid Damon," Ric said sympathetically

"She's a hunter Ric. I can't have her  trying to kill me now could I?" I couldn't believe it. Not only did Ric help kidnap me, he helped a vampire kidnap me. I was so past angry but for some unknown reason I started thinking about when all this started. My sixteenth birthday.

     **** Flashback ****

I woke up to my phone going off. I looked at the Caller ID to see it was Sam. I answered the phone to hear Sam singing:

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday Veronica happy birthday to you.

I laughed. "Good morning to you too," I said before laughing some more.

"Get up and get ready we've a lot to do," Sam instructed.

"Sam I told you I didn't want to do anything. I thought we were going to have a birthday dinner or something."

"Well...." Sam said letting on that it wasn't just a nice dinner he had planned. Before I could even answer or give out he hung up.

I heard a knock on the door and went to answer it straight away. When I opened the door a tall, muscular man stood in front of me. Judging by his uniform and the fact that he's handling a package I assume he's a delivery man of some sorts.

"Are you Veronica Montez ?" He asks. I reply with a brief nod.

"Sign here," he says while handing me a clip board. He points to where I've to sign and of course I do thinking it was a present from Sam. I shut the door and go inside to open the package. I bring it over to the table and open the box.When I open the box I see loads of folders and little boxes.

"What the hell?" I mutter as I pick up a note that lay on top of everything else.

Dear Veronica,

Happy sixteenth birthday. I hope you'll enjoy it. I can just imagine how big you are now. The last time I saw you were just a tiny baby. Anyway I told your mother that I would explain everything to you when you were old enough. So here's a box that has everything you need to. I'm sorry I'm not telling you this face to face but I was young when you were born and I just couldn't raise a baby and you were better off growing up not knowing everything. I hope that you won't be too mad. Anyway make sure you read everything in here.

"What!" I shouted. I had aunt who gave me up. What happened to my mother? What did I need to know? Why didn't she mention my father? These were all the questions that ran through my mind. I picked up the first folder I could and started reading it. On the first page was a newspaper article.

           Animal Attack Kills

Local Victoria Montez dies in hospital after an animal attack.

I stopped reading after that. "My mother's dead," I whispered to myself. " My mother's dead!" I screamed. All those years I thought that my mother just didn't want me and now I knew that she's dead. My mother who I always wanted to know was either in a box under the ground or in an urn somewhere. A tear rolled off my cheek and onto the article. I quickly turned the page and on the next page was a hand written note. Probably from Maggie.

Dear Veronica,

I need to explain to you how my sister, your mother died. It's not what the newspaper says it was. It wasn't an animal... it was a vampire.

"Seriously?" I thought to myself. She had to be kidding. Anyway I kept reading.

I know it's hard to believe but it's true. See Veronica your father, your father was a vampire. Anyway your mother and him were together for a while but then your father left. Shortly after your father left your mother found out that she was pregnant. She didn't tell your father until they crossed paths again, that was when you were two months old.

Two months old, I thought.. That's the age I was when I was sent to the orphanage.

She told your father that she was pregnant. Encase he went after you. She loved you Veronica. Your father thought she was lying. Your father was a very powerful man Veronica, he thought your mother was trying to manipulate him to stay with her. He... he attacked her and drained almost all the blood out of her. She.. she was barely alive when I found her. I brought her to a doctor I knew in the hospital. He knew about vampires and I thought he could help her. He tried his best but she was ... she was too far gone Veronica. I'm sorry, but you deserve to know the truth. - Maggie xx

You've got to be kidding me, I thought to myself. It wasn't bad enough that mother died, but my father killed her. I read everything that was in the box and decided to help. Help stop people lives end up like mine. I had to kill every vampire, even my father.

    End of Flashback  

I'm knocked out of my thoughts when my other kidnapper, Damon,  opened the back of the van which was where I was.

"Where are we?" I ask not even bothering to ask why he took me.

"Welcome to Mystic Falls," he said with a grin on his face.
