Over the side!
I can't explain how frightning and anxious we were, we didn't know where we were, whether it was an island or the mainland, whether it was inhabitated or uninhabitated. The wind was blowing fiercely, we were expecting the ship to break apiece. We sat looking at one another expecting death in every moment. Hopefully the ship didn't beak into pieces, the captain stated that the wind was begining to blow less strongly.
Now the ship was stucked to the sandbank, our first priority was to save our lives, there was a small emergency boat on the ship, and with the help of the crew we managed to get the boat on the side of the ship, then eleven men jumped into the boat and trusted our lives to God's mercy and the wild sea.
It was hopeless to survive, the waves were high, and soon the boat will be filled with water and we would all drown. We tried our best to row to the land, but we all knew that once the boat is near the land it will be broken to thousnands of pieces by the rough sea.
After rowing for about four to five miles, a fierce wave, looking like a mountain, came above our heads, It broke to the boat with a strong force, as a result the boat was turned over. We were seperated from one another, there was no time to say any prayer as the angry waves swallowed us in a moment.
Struggle to the shore
The waves carried me all the way towards the shore, then the waves went back, i was laying half dead near the shore, as i had swallowed alot of water, i got up on my feet and started running with all the might i had hoping to reach the shore, but it was of no use, i saw that i can't escape the returning waves, and so i planned to hold my breath and keep my head above the water for as long as possible, hoping that the waves will carry my to the shore.
The waves that came back buried me almost twenty to thirty feet deep, and i could feel my body being carried at a great speed towards the shore, my breath was almost out but i felt that i was going up, and soon i found my head and arms above the surface, i could only keep my head for two seconds above the surface, but it was enough for my to gasp a breath which gave me hope. After two more waves i found my feet touching the ground underneath, then i swam hard to get to the shore.
Then yet another wave came that almost ended my life, as it pushed me hard across a rock where i was severly hurt, after the wave went back i decided to hold on to the rock as hard as i can waiting for the next wave to pass, as i was near the shore where the waves were not as strong as the ones near the ship. Soon after the wave passed i started running towards the shore until finally i reached it where i was able to climb the cliffs and sit on the grass away from the danger.
Fear!
After a short rest and thanking God for saving my life, i stood up and started walking across the shore, i thought of all my comrades that perhaps have drowned, as i had never seen any sign of their survival. Looking at the ship far, i was shocked, how was i able to get to the shore from such a distance?.
I started looking around to see what the kind of place i was in, i was wet but i didn't have any dry clothes to change into or any food to eat. For a while i ran like a madman, for i didn't know what to do, i didn't have any weapons to protect myself against any wild animals who may try to eat me.
The place was getting dark, and i was getting frightened every moment it passed. I wandered around looking for any fresh water to drink, and i was happy of finding a fresh water stream not away from the shore. My only plan then was this, i would look for a tall and a strong tree and tie myself to them, it didn't take much before finding that tree, i cut a short stick to defend myself, and climbed to a good position and felt asleep really fast.
